Carlton
, adopted March, 2007
I adopted Carlton in March 2007 and I just wanted to write and let you know how he is doing and to send a few pictures. Sorry it took so long to write- my old camera broke & I finally got a new one!
Please make sure Valerie sees this - she was my Adoption Counselor. Carlton is doing great. He was VERY shy at first. I don't think he came out from under the bed for the first two days! Carlton was very sick after we brought in home. After numerous trips to the vet, he was my new best friend. I had to administer up to 3 meds a day and we would spend about 1/2 hour after that with him just cuddling on my lap & under my chin. He is now doing great!
We found that after he stayed with my in-laws one week (we were on vacation; my mother in law has two cats) that he seemed lonely after we were back at home. We have since adopted another B&W cat, Rachel. They are now best friends and hit it off right away. Their favorite thing to do is play with grey, white or black mice ONLY and bird/squirrel watch out of our bedroom window. Carlton loves the camera as you can see from these pictures! Carlton's other hobbies include watching hockey games on TV (this seems to be the only sport that catches his eye) and helping me make lunch for me & my husband. Carlton has been with us for just about a year now & we couldn't ask for a better cat!
Sincerely,
Diana Mazzarella (LaBeur)

Praline, adopted September, 2001
My precious baby Praline was adopted 9/2001. She came to us with some health problems. She had a lip and paw infection. She was also terribly scared. Our little orange tabby was a joy from day one. We had recently lost our 19 year old calico and Praline filled a very empty void. We nursed her to health and discovered she had a food allergy. Now on her new food is doing wonderful. Praline saved us and we saved her.
Praline enjoys spending her days lounging in front of a warm fire in her little pink bed, or in her picture window bird watching. Some days she enjoys playing with her toys in her toy box or snuggling in bed with someone. She truly is a gift.

Chevy, adopted September 2007

This was taken at the MCSPCA Dog Walk. This is your crazy man Chevy with the officer that rescued him and wanted to keep him. It appears Chevy remembers too. Check out the smiles. He has become a big pile of mush and has adjusted well to his new home. We could not be happier to have him, spoiled rotten! Sorry the picture is a little blurry, it was taken on a cell phone.
Thank you for all you do everyday!

Scout (was Fluffy), adopted May, 2007
 Hello,
I adopted Scout, a Rottweiler who used to be called Fluffy, at the end of May 2007 and she has been my loyal friend since the day she came home.
Scout and I enjoy taking really long walks down to the beach several times a day and Scout became instant friends with my parent's Border Collie, Maddie. The two love to chase after tennis balls all afternoon.
Adopting Scout is by far the best decision I have ever made and I'm reassured by all of the hugs and the way she leaps up every time I come home.

Guapo, adopted October, 2007

Hi,
In October my husband and I adopted a 2 1/2 month old kitten, now named Guapo. He caught my husband's attention by simply being himself. Guapo, although alone in his cage, was having a great time entertaining himself. Then, he won my heart by cuddling up to my neck and giving me kisses on my ear. He plays fetch with my husband and he loves to be held by his mami. He has added so much joy to our lives.

Shadow, adopted October, 2007
Dear MCSPCA staff and friends,
Thank you for the perfect dog! We adopted Shadow in October. Shadow is an all black German Shepherd. My girlfriend and I were looking for a dog that could both be a house pet and have a bark when neccessary.Shadow was at the SPCA for a long time, because of her cage aggression. A lot of people missed out on a great companion.
She was an abused animal, and had anxiety and mild aggresion toward males. However, now she has been socializing with many people and dogs and has made a wonderful improvement. She lives with our 3 other cats whom she adores, and plays with frequently. She loves to go in the backyard and run all the time. She is also very loyal to us, and loves to cuddle. We can never seem to convince her to sleep in her doggy bed. She insists everynight to sleep with us. She was a little jumpy about affection during the first month we had her and now she oves to cuddle.
When we first got Shadow I believe she had forgotten what a toy was...it was heart-breaking. Then all of a sudden a few weeks later she picked up a toy and ran to us with such cute eyes and a happily wagging tail. We have all adjusted very well, and our 3 cats fight over playing with her...kind of odd but adorable. This was definetly a success story because she is so much happier now~and so are we.
Thank you --everyone at the MCSPCA for our wonderfull Shadow. She is a great addition to our family-EVERYBODY loves her.
Thanks again,
Brian and Victoria

Bonnie and Clyde, adopted September, 2007
 Hi world,
Our names are Bonnie and Clyde and we are successful graduates of the Monmouth County SPCA University. We were adopted in September 2007 and have moved to Brick, New Jersey, where we enjoy our new home and our weekly trips to the off-leash dog park.
We are extremely grateful for the wonderful job our caretakers at the Monmouth County SPCA did. Without them, well, we don’t even want to think where we would have ended up.
Clyde says: “While I’m a bit shy, I’ve come a long way toward coming out of my shell. I’ve always had fun playing with Bonnie, but now I’m warming up to humans and other fellow canines. Knowing that Bonnie will protect me if any other canines try picking on me definitely helps!”
Bonnie says: “I’m still a jokester and love to play tricks on my mommy and daddy. I especially like to play catch with the ball, even though mommy wishes I wouldn’t play tug-o-war with her after I retrieve the ball! Clyde and I are attending obedience training and have learned many commands, including Sit, Lay Down, Watch Me, and Leave It.”
We love our new life and hope to visit the SPCA soon, to thank all of our friends there who gave us such good care!

Addie (Update)
, adopted July, 2002
Hello! It has been a long time since I've sent an update of Addie (adopted in July 2002). She is happy as a clam! We are so happy to have her in our lives. We just moved to CT and she is enjoying New England life. Attached is pic of her "enjoying" the snow (really she just wants to go inside) and a good goofy shot!
Take care,
Meghan, Pete and Addie

Rex (was Wilbur)
, adopted January, 2007
We adopted our precious cat Rex (formerly Wilbur)- or should I say, he adopted us- in January 2007. My husband and I were there for quite a long time, holding many of the cats and kittens, wishing we could bring them all home. Something kept drawing us to the feisty black and white 4 month old kitten named Wilbur. The moment he reached out a paw to us, we knew that he was our baby! We just kept coming back to him with his beautiful green eyes and loving disposition.
His brother had just been adopted a week or so earlier, we were told, so he had not been alone long before we brought him home. From the moment he arrived at our house, he became king of the castle, which is one of the reasons we renamed him "Rex" which is KING in Latin!
From an adorable 4 1/2 pound kitten, Rex has grown into a healthy 15 pound cat. We were told he was the runt of the litter... so I can only imagine what his brothers and sisters must look like now. I teach music lessons in the home and Rex delights every one of my students, even the dog lovers have been converted to his side. He is impossible not to love, and we're so grateful we were able to come to the MCSPCA and find him.
Thanks so much!
Amy and Bruce Fredericks

Mitzi (was Pebbles)
, adopted June, 2007
I friends! I want to thank everyone at the MCSPCA for helping me find my new family. My name is Mitzi (formerly Pebbles). I had been living at the MCSPCA for a few months, when back in July Lois introduced me to this nice family looking for a kitty that would "tolerate" their 2 yr. old. Well, when I met their 2 year old, I knew that this was the family I wanted to be a part of.
I walked right up to that cute little girl and rubbed against her hoping she would feel the same way about me. Thankfully, she did, and the very next day they came and took me home. My first reaction was to hide under the couch, but within a few hours I started feeling bold enough to come out whenever my new family members were in the room. By that night I felt confident enough to roam the house and quickly found my favorite spot right on the Mr. & Mrs. bed!
It's been almost six months now and I couldn't be happier. I not only "tolerate" the 2 yr. old, but she is my best friend and companion. I play with her all the time, and I love sitting next to when she is reading or watching TV.
I am now comfortable enough to let my quirks show through...I consantly need to paw the blinds (especially at 3am), I have this uncontrollable desire to crawl into every bag, box or jacket I see, I need constant attention and am always underfoot. But thankfully, my new family loves me quirks and all.
Thank you again MSPCA for taking great care of me and helping me find my forever home!
Mitzi

Rocky (was Kiro)
, adopted August, 2006
Hello. We adopted 2 dogs from you. One is Rocky. Rocky's name was Kiro. He was adopted in August 2006. He was about 10 months old at the time. I think he spent quite a few months at the MCSPCA. Vader was adopted exactly a year and a day later (Coincidence..LOL) Vader's name at the shelter was Hero. Funny that they were called Hero and Kiro...LOL. Rocky has brought so much joy to our lives. Since the day I brought him home, he became my magnet. He follows me everywhere! He is very sweet with our 7 year old daughter. He's a very gentle giant. He is always trying to please us, no matter what it is.
Rocky is also very protective of our little girl. If the doorbell rings and our daughter goes to see who it is through the window, he is always right in front of her blocking her from answering the door. He is so funny like that....ALWAYS watching out for her. I couldn't ask for a better dog. I just want to thank the MCSPCA for taking such good care of him at the shelter and giving him a chance and most of all, we want to thank you all for letting us bring him into our lives, I am so blessed to have him. He is my baby.
Rocky has been with us since August of 2006. Since then we have another addition to our family from the MCSPCA! His name is Vader...His shelter name was Hero. We wanted Rocky to have a friend. Another big dog to play with. So we found Vader. He is still a puppy, so he has a lot of manners to learn, LOL. He is a real sweerheart though. His tail is always wagging. It took Rocky some time to get use to Vader, but now they are inseperable and very happy together. They would be so sad without each other.
We want to thank you for our babies. We love them very much. They complete our family! Love,
Jenn, Mike and Cristie DeTullio

Petunia, adopted November, 2004
Hi,
My name is Laurie and my husband David and I adopted Petunia back in November of 2004. Petunia is a very shy girl and she ran away several weeks after we brought her home. We received a call 10 days after she ran away from another animal lover who lived about 10 miles away, he found her sleeping on his deck. Since then she has really bonded with us as well as her brother Willie.
Pictured is Willie (the Golden) and Petunia (the smaller one) waiting to get back into the house.

Zephy, adopted December, 2004
 Hi there:
I am writing a note to give you an update on Zephy. I adopted Zephy 3 years ago this December. She is such a wonderful dog and I am so glad she is with me.
Zephy will be 5 on Valentines day. Zephy was a crazy Airedale terrier that was surrendered because her old family couldn't handle her high-strung personality. She came to me with a a lot of training to do and she was also missing one of her canine teeth (she had a benign jaw tumor and her old family took good care of her).
Zephy has since completed two levels of dog training and her next step if we choose to move forward would be as a therapy dog. She has settled down quite a bit and really enjoys chasing the squirrels and ground hogs out of her fenced yard. She also loves to run on Sandy Hook beach and go to the dog park. She is the best. Here is a recent picture of Zephy on the beach in September.
Thank you to the shelter and everything you do for these wonderful little beings!

Gretchen, adopted February, 2007
Hi,
We adopted Gretchen in Feb. of this year and I just wanted to say we couldn't be happier. She's fit in perfectly in our family. Though she's changed so much from when we got her its hard to recognize the scared puppy we brought home.
When we adopted Gretchen she was 35 lbs, we were told her and her sister Loretta were abuse cases and had been starved. Well were proud to say that Gretchy-girl is now a healthy but a 'lil pudgy 52 lbs. She's a wonderful dog, and is way too smart for us. She's figured out where we keep her treats and she knows, sit, speak, up, down, paw, and high five. She's claimed the couch and my mom's bed for her own, not to mention our laps and feet when she wants cuddles and belly rubs.
When we got her she was afraid of her own shadow and didn't know what toys were. Now she chases squirrels and you can't go the day without having a dog toy dropped in your lap by an over excited puppy. She's also recently discovered the joy of car rides and will race you to the car in the hopes of going on one.
We want to thank the MCSPCA for all the good they're doing and the joy they've brought to us.
Colleen, Shannon, Nick, and Gretchen

Tiger, adopted October, 2007
We met Tiger (that was his name and we kept it) he is a Shih Zsu/Pek mix on Saturday, October 6th. He had just been at the shelter a day or so. But let me go back further. I am a wife and a mother, two wonderful kids girl 15 boy 10. They have wanted a dog for as long as I remember and I would never agree, we are a working family and I knew what a big commitment it would be. As of January 1st I agreed and we began our search, we had searched Petfinder online for many months. Attending so many adoption events and we just could not seem to find the right dog. Until October 6 the at the Monmouth County SPCA. When we went him we fell in love. He was adorable but what we didn't know was wonderful he was. He walks into his crate every night, plays with my children (he is good natured), housebroken. He is the dog of our dreams. The person who gave him up must be heartbroken because he is so good no one would have ever have given him away without a serious reason. So to the person or family who gave Tiger away I just want to say thank you. He has found us and we love him. You did a wonderful job training and loving him and we thank you.
Thank you, Connie & family & Tiger

Lola, adopted January, 2007
Hello, We adopted Lola (known as Caprice while she was with you) in January 2007. She is a sweet little cat that we absolutely adore.
We came to the shelter in search of a friend for other other cat, Fiona. Fiona lost her older sister, Jasmine, in December and was not doing well. She had lost 10% of her body weight in less than a month and moped around the house. She had been to the vet because we were very scared about her weight loss. After a battery of tests, the vet said there was nothing physically wrong with her. He was equally concerned about her weight loss though. We knew it had to be losing Jasmine. She was really lonely and had no company while we were at work. You could clearly tell she missed Jasmine very much.
We went to the MCSPCA and were shocked at the number of cats that needed homes. It was overwhelming to try to find a friend for Fiona on our own. Eventually, we knew we needed help. We sought out an adoption counselor to help us. We described that we were looking for a cat in the same age range as Fiona that would be a friend to another cat. We were brought to a little cat named Caprice. We had actually already looked at her a few times. When the cage was opened, Caprice immediately rubbed heads with my husband. She wanted to adopt us as much as we wanted to adopt her. We decided to change her name to Lola. When we brought her home, Fiona was at first upset at the "invader" in her house. We followed the instructions that were given to us to help them get accustomed to one another. We had integrated them slowly, eventually allowing the door to the room to be partially open but with a baby gate in front of it. This way they could see one another partially but still have their own area. Lola really wanted to meet Fiona and eventually charged our blockade and ran out to meet her. At first, Fiona merely tolerated her presence (after all she was the queen in the castle). But in less than 2 weeks, they were playing together.

Their favorite game is chase. Basically, Fiona hides on the side of a doorway and when Lola comes out she pounces. Then the chasing and running through the house begins. It sounds like a stampede but is fun to watch. Every once in a while, one of them starts sliding across the kitchen floor on one of the throw rugs. Fiona is now back to her old self. She gained all of her weight back and is very happy with her friend Lola.
We are very happy with Lola, too. It was really hard after Jasmine died of kidney failure. We had done everything we could to treat her and make her comfortable. We were still grieving for her when we got Lola. Lola has brightened our lives. Her favorite thing in the world is to be pet. She has the cutest chirpy purr. Lola sleeps on my pillow most nights. She is starting to become a lap cat, too. When I got really sick with the flu, Lola jumped up and after being very apprehensive, sat right in my lap. We took a nap together for 2 hours. She was trying to make me feel better. Now, when she sees me with a blanket over me, she jumps up and settles in for a nap. She is still a bit afraid but I am sure in a few more months, she will be the ultimate lap cat.
I should also mention that her eyes are doing fine. When Lola first was brought in to the shelter, she had a serious eye infection. While she was cured at the shelter, the infection had damaged her eyes. The vet tech made it easy for us to understand - we were told she sees through a dirty glass. You can tell sometimes (like when you drop a piece of chicken on the floor as a treat - she is looking at you the entire time but then can't find the piece on the floor) but she has no trouble at all. Our vet continually checks her eyes and says that everything is doing great.
Thank you very much for nursing Lola back to health and taking care of her for us until we found her. She is a blessing to our family.
Warm Regards, Rose Ellen, Chuck, and Fiona Gibson

Salli, adopted September, 2007
Salli is back home with her family! A few months after we gave birth to twin girls in 2006, my husband and I were so busy that we didn’t have a lot of time for Salli. I was beside myself, but was encouraged by my family to put Salli up for adoption. They told me that she would have a better life where she had more attention and I reluctantly agreed. She was at the shelter for about five months and then went to live on Margrit’s farm where she was fostered for almost a year. We kept in touch with her progress all along. Margrit allowed me to visit Salli once Salli acclimated to her environment on the farm. It only took one visit for me to know that Salli had to come home. I was missing her so terribly. Now that the girls were a little older, I could make arrangements to bring Salli home. It took a couple months to put all the plans in place, but on Saturday, September 1, Salli came home to Bayside NY where she spent most of her life. I am thankful to the MCSPCA for placing Salli with Margrit and highly grateful to Margrit for the good care she took of Salli as well as the patience she had with me while I made plans to bring my Salli home. Everyone is thrilled to see Salli back home and the only one happier than Salli is me!
Regards, Tracey Crystal

Yogi
, adopted September, 2007
Yogi has made himself at home with our family. Yes, I know, we are working on him staying off the furniture, but it was such a cute shot we couldn't resist. He is doing well walking with his easy walk harness, but is exhausted when we come back because everything is a new experience. He behaves when in his crate, and we have had no problems with him sleeping. Only one accident - I think he mistook my dresser as a tree. It is a wonderful fit, and he has taken to my husband. We will continue to work on his behavior - he is still so puppy-like.
Oct 07- An update on Yogi - it's been a month, and as you can see Yogi is very comfortable in our home. He has had his first vet visit, and other than a yeast infection in his ears, he is doing well. He has gained over 3 lbs despite his high activity level. We are working hard on obedience (coming slowly but surely). He is loved by all family members. He likes long walks when it is not too hot out, and will sit by our front door for hours and watch the world go by. We could not imagine our family without him at this point.
Jan 08- Yogi is doing very well. Still some behavioral issues, mostly with walking, but he has clamed down tremendously. He loves his home, and everyone here loves him too. We were extremely surprised at Christmas. He did not bother the tree or any other decorations. For the most part, he chews only on his toys. He has improved when we have guests in the house, and the only time he gets a little crazy when my nephews start running - he thinks it is a game. I just wanted to share this picture, because I really think it captures just how cute this puppy actually is. People stop me when we walk to comment on how beautiful he is.
Thanks again for bringing joy into our home.

Henry (was Frodo)
, adopted December, 2006
Hi All! Henry here -- or Frodo as I was known while I was at MCSPCA. Ain't I looking good? I helped decorate the Christmas tree this year and my two-legged Mom said I was a better helper than the cats. She said the cats like to knock the ornament off the tree, so I took it upon myself to make sure that didn't happen this year. I think I did a pretty good job both decorating and guarding the tree.
Life's treating me well now that I've found my forever home. I've three cats to play with - if they will ever come down from upstairs. I'm not allowed up there (yet), so I only get to see them when they venture downstairs into my territory. Two of them seem to be curious about me, but the other one runs whenever she sees me.
I get to go for walks daily but not as long as I'd like - Mom and Dad complain about it being too cold. Sometimes I get to go to the beach or the reservoir. Dad says I'm a smart dog because I know when we're getting near the reservoir - I guess I get a little excited. I see a lot of other dogs on these walks and sometimes horses. I barked at a horse once and Mom laughed at me, saying that wasn't a big dog. Of course I knew that!
I've got lots of friends in the neighborhood and 'girlfriends' on either side of me. I don't want to play favorites, but since one of them has a fenced in yard, I go over there and play with her. Mom and Dad haven't been convinced I need a live-in playmate, but I'm working on them.
Well, that's it from here. I hope that I'll get a chance to come back soon and let you all see how good I look. I was back at the shelter for Santa Paws -- now I know how Brad Pitt feels. I felt like a celebrity when people recognized me. Special hello to Maureen and Homer - Thanks for all you did for me and letting me go home with these wonderful people. I'm living the good life now.
Henry
Maximillian
, adopted February, 2006
IWe are a two-time adoption success story. Fiona joined us in May of 2003 (I sent an update on her a year or two back), and in February 2006, we adopted Maximillian. Now known as "Max-a-one-in-a-Million," "Max-a-Billion," "Maximus Catticus," "Chunk," or simply as Max.
If I remember the story correctly, he had previously been adopted by another family who returned him to the MCSPCA after some time. Guess it wasn't the right fit, but we're so happy he made his way to us! He's a big guy, 18 pounds, and had a rather bad limp when he first came home with us. But it was gone in a couple of weeks, and in the meantime, he amazed us by jumping on top of everything in the house, exploring. It wasn't long before he bonded with Fiona, and now they're the best of friends.
He's FIV-positive, but his checkups prove he's very healthy, and I'm enclosing this picture to show you just how comfortable he is here. This is his routine "TV-watching" position! Please tell Miss Lois that Max says hello, and let her know we couldn't love him more - he's perfect for us.
Thank you all so much for taking care of him until we discovered him. L. Kennedy, Red Bank
Leo
, adopted February, 2005
I adopted Leo from the Monmouth County SPCA two years ago, and I am finally getting around to updating all of you. Leo is doing wonderfully, and has been a genuinely good thing in my life for the past two years. Leo loves taking walks on the beach, going to play with all the other dogs at the park, and lounging in the sun on a warm summer day. Leo also loves going for long drives in the backseat of the car, and I’ve attached a picture showing it (shown to the right)!
In the picture to the left, Leo (on the left) and his friend Sadie are taking a break from playing to smile for the camera. I plan to bring Leo by the SPCA soon, in hopes he will be able to catch up with some old friends. Two years ago I walked into the SPCA looking for a dog; I walked out with my new best friend. Thank you for helping us rescue each other,
Dan & Leo Sizelove .
Bella (was Tissa)
, adopted March, 2007
Hi my name is Bella, but you probably remember me as Tissa. My new mommy and daddy adopted me on March 1st even though they knew I was recovering from cancer surgery and there was a great possibility it would return. Well it turns out the cancer was never really gone and I had surgery on March 21st. I had to wear a stupid lampshade so I wouldn’t lick the incision, did not like that so much. My forever parents are great. I get cooked chicken every day, all kinds of yummy treats. I have a great bed and I can also sleep on the furniture (the couch is my favorite). I have a big fenced in backyard that I get to frolic in anytime I want. I pretty much run the house. The photo above is me sleeping on MY couch! I am feeling my better now, I can run and jump and play again.
Just wanted to let you guys know I am doing great.

Darwin (was Brady)
, adopted March, 2007
At the end of March, 2007, we adopted the bestest beagle (then named Brady) Darwin. He was rough for the first week, but has been the perfect addition to our family. We go out for several walks a day and can't wait to go camping at CKMA.
Thank you SPCA for introducing us!!!
Felix (was Gotee)
, adopted November, 2006
Hi There! My name is Felix (the cat), formerly known as Gotee. I was taken in by the wonderful folks at the MCSPCA and spent a great deal of time there. I shared a space with two feline friends, but really needed to find a home. One day in November of 2006, a couple came in and I knew that they were the ones I wanted to adopt. Lois let me out of the cage and I went into the man's arms (they call him Nick) and that was that. I had let the couple know I was ready to adopt them. Lois and my new adoptees filled out the paperwork and off I went. I now share my space with another feline friend, Chicquan. She was found in a garage about 4 years ago. I like to play fetch and chase Chicquan around the house. We both like to sit in the window, soak up the sun and watch the birds and the squirrels; are there to entertain us.
I wish to thank all the folks at the MCSPCA and let them know I appreciate everything they did for me and for finding this feline a good home and new friends.
Felix
Drake
, adopted April, 2007
This is Drake in his new home in Point Pleasant...on the deck in the backyard, in front of the house with his "sister," Kelly, and laying on the dining room rug with a ball. Although Drake just came home with us on Sunday, April 29, by the very next day he seemed to be right at home. He is loveable and sweet, is eating his food, lounging on the deck in the sun, going for walks around the neighborhood with Kelly, and going for frequent car rides.
His "dad," who is retired, took him for a romp on the river beach in Manasquan, also known as doggie beach, where he met several dogs and fetched a tennis ball. He walked on the edge of the water at first but now he goes in a bit!
We are really happy Drake is here. Our black Lab, Buzz, died a few days after Christmas, and when we decided we were ready to have another dog we knew we wanted to try to adopt an adult dog from a shelter. When we saw Drake and he looked at us with those big brown eyes we instantly knew that he was the one for us. By the very next day we were certain that he was the one and we think he feels that way too because he has made himself right at home.

He is very loving and likes attention and being the top dog (only dog) in the house. He learned two new tricks since he came home with us. He already knew "sit." He also knows "paw" (shake hands) and "down" (lay down.) He loves his "cookies" (biscuits) and can catch one if you throw it up in the air. He is a great big gentle dog and is very much a part of the family.

Sadie (was Sandy)
, adopted January, 2007
We adopted Sandy which we changed her name to Sadie in Jan, actually January 27, 2007...We are so happy that we did. When Kate and Paul (MCSPCA volunteers) had told us about "Sandy" we were so excited.....then the day before we were to come we were told that another family were in the process of her adoption. We felt well if it was meant to be she would have been there the day that we were to come down to the shelter...Thankfully...the other family didn't adopt her and we knew she was for us.
We came down to the shelter with our other 6 year old golden retriever and it was a hit. The two of them got along and have since the moment they met..She is a beautiful dog and loves our neighborhood and they love her. She has gotten into a little trouble but nothing out of ordinary for a puppy...she is so lovable and loves to be cuddled......
We can't thank everybody there enough for the work they did with her and how she is so easy to train. I will bring her back down so everyone can see how well she is doing. I know from Kate and Paul that she was a favorite and I know why...I hope you enjoyed the pics......as we enjoy Sadie.
Love, the Malones

Daisy
, adopted May, 2006
Hi my name is Ryan Woolf. I along with my brother, grandmother, grandfather, and two cousins adopted Daisy on May 5, 2006. At the time she was nine months old and now she is one going on two. At first she was nuts then we took her to training . Now she is the queen of the house. Every day when I come home from school she is sitting on the step waiting for both me and my brother. That shows that she loves us very much.
Gabriel
, adopted May, 2007
Hi, I adopted Gabriel a few weeks ago and I just wanted to write and let you know how he is doing and send a few pictures. Please make sure Lois sees this, she was my Adoption Couselor and she helped me find him!
Gabriel is doing really well, he was a bit shy at first but when I got him home I fed him a yummy can dinner and I think that won him over. After a fews weeks he seems so comfortable here, and he knows he owns the house. We love him, he is such a good little companion. During the day he likes to sleep on our bed, and at night he either plays with his mouse toy or sits on the couch and watches TV with us. Thanks so much for taking such good care of him, and giving us the chance to adopt him!
Sincerely, Sarah Lilley and Patrick O'Rourke
Chanel (was Velvet)
, adopted 2004
Here is a picture of Velvet (aka Chanel, her new name). I adopted her approximately 3 years ago from your facility. She is a wonderful little girl and my only little girl. She enjoys being carried around like a baby and cuddling on the sofa. At night, her routine includes a nice back rub prior to her falling asleep in my bed.........yes, she is a bed poodle.
She did not look like this when I adopted her. She appeared to be very elderly and in need of grooming. As you can see, from a great diet and monthly grooming (at the Brielle Pet Salon), Chanel has returned to the beauty she has always been. I am blessed to have such a wonderful companion and addition to my family.

Isis
, adopted December, 2006
We adopted Isis from the MCSPCA in early December 2006. While we were told she was a Rhodesian Ridgeback, most experts think she is mostly Great Dane and Lab with a little Ridgeback mixed in. We had looked for a long time before choosing Isis, and it was love at first sight. We knew she was the one. It was wonderful to bring a dog into our home who was house trained and familiar with some commands.
The biggest rough spot we had was that Isis did not know how to respond to her name. She never came when she was called, and she ran away to the neighboring high school fields five times in the first month we had her. When the kids chased her through the muddy fields in their Sunday best clothing I knew we had to do something quickly before she was lost or hurt. We invested in a fence, lots of training (thank you Bayshore Kennel Club), and lots of exercise.
Isis needed a purpose, she needed to take commands from a strong pack leader. Daily runs in the woods, play time in the yard, training with treats, and then down time with love and affection has molded her into the perfect dog. When she runs through the woods every morning she resembles a lioness, a strong hunter with speed and agility. At home, she is protective yet friendly to visitors. She is tolerant of the poking and prodding of our three year old and she is a loving companion to every family member.
Isis is truly the Queen she is named for. We are so lucky to have her. Thank you Monmouth County SPCA for caring for her for three months and nursing her back to perfect health so she could join our family.
Izzy (was Tee Tee)
, adopted April, 2007
Hi everyone, it's me Izzy. I was Tee Tee when I lived at the MCSPCA. I am sure you all remember me because I was there for a very long time. Thank you for taking such good care of me while I waited for my Dad and Mom to come find me and take me home on April 13, 2007. It didn't take me long to get used to living here. In fact I adjusted way faster than my Mom thought I would. By the way, I was definitely not a "Wallflower" kind of girl. I am just the opposite. I love to play fetch the most. I think I would play 24/7 if my mother would just come out in the yard with me that often. I also love to play Frisbee, and can catch it midair most of the time. My best friend Maureen, the SPCA Volunteer, came to visit me at my new place and brought me a Kong Frisbee. She sure picked a good toy, because I haven't destroyed it, yet! I have lots of other toys that I play with. My mom even got me a big ball that is for horses hoping I couldn't kill it. I have maimed it pretty good, but I can still play with it. My Dad and Mom play with me a lot, which is why I am solid muscle. Even my Vet, Dr Sabia was happy to see what good shape I am in.
I also have to tell you how well I get along with other dogs. I haven't met one yet that I didn't like. I have met lots of other dogs, and we have never had a problem. Cats, are a different story. Let's just say I made a big scene at Pet Smart when I saw the kitties in the cages and leave it at that. My best friend is Lukey. He is a really big Rottie, and I love to go to his house to play. He has a sister Honey, but she can't really be bothered with us. There are also these other REALLY BIG dogs at Lukey's that I had to check out when I saw them. Apparently it is a good thing that the one I tried to play with was nice because my Mom said she could have kicked me and really hurt me. She said her foot had a hoof on it, whatever that is...
Just so you don't think I am a perfect angel, I do have a few things we need to work on, like messing with the garbage can and taking things off the kitchen counter when I want to be a little spiteful. I don't eat anything I take off the counter, I just put it on the floor. In fact, sometimes it isn't even food. Dish towels are fun. I only do it to let my parents know I can. But, hey, I am just a Dog, and my mother has promised I am here to stay. I hope all of my SPCA friend's parents give them the same promise, no matter how many mistakes they make.
My Mom and Dad are always saying how smart I am. I really don't think it is a very big deal to open the cabinet door to their computer desk. My mom points at it and asks me what's in there. So, I open it by the handle with my teeth. What's the big deal? So, I tried to open a closet door by the door knob and hinges. What do you expect, my toys are in there? When I want my Mom to get up and take me out to play in the morning, I kiss her and roll around on my back, "gently" bumping in to her until she gets the hint. It isn't Rocket Science to do those things! I have to run for now. Mommy is going to take me out for a game of fetch for the fifth time today. I will keep in touch, and may even stop by for a visit soon.
Love, Izzy Mattern
Ginger
, adopted February, 2007
Allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Michael and Kim Krause of Ocean Grove and we adopted GINGER on February 25, 2007. Ginger was at Eatontown for a couple of years, and we are happy to let everyone know that Ginger is absolutely a wonderful goofball. We love having her around the house and she is a joy to own. Everyday her personality gets happier and happier. I have sent a picture in hopes that everyone will remember Ginger. The picture that I have sent is Ginger's favorite spot in the house. It is the second floor indoor porch where Ginger can see her neighborhood and all who is in it.
Michael and I love GINGER so much. She has adjusted to our home wonderfully and has gotten even more of a goofball personality. She loves her stuffed toys and biscuits. She has her own special bed all set up like a tent where she is comfortable. She loves to walk and has some dog friends that she bumps into when we are walking in Ocean Grove. At first when Ginger came home with us she was tentative and shy, but working with her everyday, she has blossomed into a wonderful family member. We took her to get groomed for the first time in May and she was so proud when she left, like she knew she was all polished up and smelling like a Princess. Ginger loves to wrestle with us and play rough and loves her belly being rubbed.
Michael and I enlisted the help of a trainer for Ginger, but to be honest he has trained us to be even better with Ginger. She heels, perfectly. She also now can sit & stay as well as lay down on commend. She has even gotten Kim into shape. I had back surgery in December and to date I am now able to walk at least one hour at a clip and enjoy getting back to normal. We both even lost weight in our daily walks, since February.
In closing, Michael and I have to say thanks for never giving up on Ginger and we consider ourselves the lucky owners whom Ginger picked to come home with.
Warmest regards, Kim & Michael Krause
UPDATE October 2007::
We have a further update- Ginger is an awesome with a great personality that I am proud to say came out after a while at our house. She loves to wrestle play with her toys, and now with training she is walking on a leash great and obeying while we are outside as well as inside. I have to admit my husband and I have totally spoiled her. She has put on a few pounds and now she is on a diet as per the vet. One thing Ginger loves now is going to the groomer and get a nice rub and bath.
Ginger was a bit of a project but
she is but totally worth all the time and love and effort we have put into giving Ginger a loving and happy and cozy home. Michael and I are so happy she picked us for owners. Well, one last bit before I go. Michael and I and Ginger are moving to Colorado on or about 10-15-07. Ginger will now become a mountain dog. We had lived there a few years back and decided to move back as we love it in Colorado so very much. Ginger is almost packed, has her new kennel that looks like a dog house and her winter coat and will be on the road for her next journey in life.
Rutkus and Forest
, adopted August, 2007
Hi, all my friends down at the SPCA. Hi Maureen and Jean and everyone, It’s me!!, Ruckus and my new brother Forest. We’re doing great in our new home. It took a few days for us to get used to our new surroundings and thanks to the guidance of our friends at the SPCA we’re adapting very nicely and everything is working out just fine, says mom and dad. You know we can sometimes be a handful when we get together. Mom, Dad and Aunt Maryann are giving us both a lot of love and kisses and we’re giving them lots of love too. We met our new housemate little sunshine too. Did you know he’s a cat!! Boy, Cats are ok but they don’t like to play with us dogs. He seems to like us and we are good with him too. I think in time we will be best of friends. We got a whole bunch of new toys and new crates and beds and a big backyard with our own swimming pool and everything. My bed is so comfortable, sometimes I like to just hang out in it even when I am allowed to be free in the house.
We go out for walk a few times a day once in the morning and once at night. We're learning how to walk, sit, down, come and no. Lately we had a lot of no's but we're still learning the rules. We get to play in the back yard whenever we want and it’s a lot of fun wrestling and playing chase. Last night we all watched the gentle leader movie together. Personally, I liked Turner and Hooch better but we all watched it and we did learn something. After the movie we all went out for a walk around to see our new neighborhood and friends we havn't met yet. We already started to learn how to behave in a house. It’s not too hard once we know what we have to do. Next month we go to school. That will be fun too.
Yesterday we stayed all day in the yard just catching some sun and taking a dip in our new pool. It was fun. We swam, played frisbee and made some mud pies and had a fantastic time just being dogs. We played with our new ball rope tug toy. That's fun... We found if you fill the pool with dirt and water it makes a great doggie size mud pie, dad started to laugh when he saw us lying in our pool sized mud pie when he got home from work. Later that night mom gave us both a bath and that was fun too. I’m not sure what they mean by a dogs life but it must mean good.
Thanks to everyone down at the SPCA for teaching us and getting us ready for our new forever home. Mom and dad, said to tell you we are being very good boys now and everything is just fine. Bye for now, tell everyone we love them and come on over for a visit some time. Don’t forget your bathing suits, we’ll bring the bones.
Your friends forever,
Ruckus and Forest Howard and Elaine Coffey and Maryann Jakiela
King, Chelsea, Laurie and Mona
July 2004 I adopted King (shown to the left)- I’ve been meaning to write you about my Success Story for some time now. I want to thank you so much for working so hard to find me a great home. Thank you for taking such good care of me both times I was there. With my old owners as you might remember kept me outside in the cold with little food, now I sleep in a fluffy queen size bed with lots of pillows! I no longer have to worry about my next meal! I sleep easy at night knowing this. :)
I adopted Chelsea (to the right) in February 2006- I’m almost happy in a way my old owners gave me up; I’m living the life over here! Some say I may be a little spoiled with all the love and attention and maybe even my huge fluffy bed! Thank you to all the volunteers for taking such good care of me during my stay and helping me find my forever home.

Mona was adopted
August 2006- Mona is shown to the left (senior’s rock!). I just wanted to write to thank you for all your kindness when I was there. Thank you for
taking extra care of my back legs, its hard being old! I have a wonderful family
that is patient with my special needs, thank you for working so hard to find me a great home.
I adopted Laurie the cat (shown to the right) in October 2006- Thank you for taking such good care of me during my 2 month stay at the shelter. I want to thank you for finding me home. It’s taken me a while to warm up to my family but with their patience love and understanding my confidence has built up dramatically. I no longer have to fend for myself; I rest easy at night knowing this. |
