Comet
, adopted May, 2004
Comet's age was estimated at under 2 when we adopted her in the spring of 2004. It took a long time for her to get used to us and she was very nervous in her cage when we tried to pet her. But when we realized that she loved being held like a baby, we knew that eventually she would come around. Now she gets excited when she hears our voices and allows us to pet her while she is in her cage. She is an affectionate, snuggly bunny. We always hear wonderful stories about dogs and cats finding their forever homes. When a homeless bunny finds her forever home it is equally as wonderful.
Many people do not know that the MCSPCA (and other shelters) have bunnies, Guinea Pigs, hamsters and other "small and furries" waiting for loving homes. Before you go to a pet store, please check us out and visit our small and furries.
Loverboy
, adopted May, 2005
I've been looking forward to updating my old friends at MCSPCA but I had to wait for my mommy to sign onto the computer she has it password protected and I'm still honing my mental telepathy skills. Anyway, this Mother's Day we celebrated our first anniversary! Just one year ago I was living with you in the big room with the cages (I had one by the window). I remember the day mommy came to get me. I heard her talking with an Adoption Counselor about my FIV. The Counselor was telling her all about it. I was screaming at her "I'm okay, I'm normal, I won't be any problem" and she looked at me and said "what a pretty little MEOW he has". Well I tried! Thank God mommy could understand the Adoption Counselor because I think she told her the same thing I did.
Life just seems to get better and better. I can't believe how much I have learned. I play this really fun game with my mommy when she comes down the stairs in the morning to go to work. I hide behind the plant on the landing and jump out and grab at her feet. Sometimes I actually get my claw caught in her stocking, I like when that happens because she goes back upstairs and a few minutes later comes down again - and there I am. Speaking of claws, mommy takes me every month to a place called PETsMART to get a manicure. We get into the car and I sit in the seat next to mommy and look out the window. She turns on the radio and sings to me as we drive. When we get there I sit in the cart and mommy pushes me up and down the aisles. All these nice people pet me and tell mommy how handsome and well behaved I am. I can't figure out what the big deal is, if cats weren't supposed to sit in the carts they wouldn't have put seats in them. There is a really nice lady who pets me and kisses me and trims my nails. I like it! Sometimes when we go there they are having a pet adoption day. I am trying to plant subliminal suggestions in mommy's mind to get me a brother or a sister - so far it isn't working. Got any ideas? Well I have to go patrol the house and check my food bowl. I'm attaching a picture of me helping mommy read the newspaper and clip coupons. I'm not real good at cutting along the lines yet.
Be well and send my love to everyone. I can't thank you enough for all that you do!!!!!
UPDATE December 2006: Hi all! Just wanted to drop you a quick note and wish you all a very happy holiday. Mom and I are very busy putting a tree in the house... I'm not to sure why she is doing that but you'll get no argument from me. I have a new game that I think my friends at the MCSPCA would enjoy. I hide under the tree and as Mommy unwraps and hangs little toys on the tree branches I bat at them. If I make good contact they go flying across the room. After I do that a while, I hide behind the boxes she has under the tree. One time I used a box as a scratching post and all this paper started to shred! WOW that was really cool (Mommy didn't think so). I went to PetSmart and had my picture taken with Santa and guess who was there, Ms. Goetz!!! For those of you who might not know who she is, Ursula is the leader of the pack at MCSPCA and because of her and the staff, we get to have homes and mommies. She kissed me on my face, I really like that. I am including a current picture Mommy took of me. She caught me checking out my present... wonder what it is. No way I'm waiting two more weeks.
Love and kisses to everyone, Lover
Precious, adopted September, 2003
Hello, Precious was adopted September, 2003 Story: A friend of mine asked me in June of 2003 to take care of her Pitbull, Precious. Precious never had a real home, she was always going from house to house and was abused by several people. At first, my family was a little weary about the idea, but when we met her, we fell in love with her and decided to take her in. The deal was that we'd take care of her for a month while my friend's family was doing renovations on their house. A month flew by quickly and before we knew it Precious left us. Our dog, Murphy was very depressed after she left and we all noticed that things were quiet without Precious around, so we decided that we were going to get another dog. As we looked from shelter to shelter, we didn't seem to find any dogs that seemed to be the right one for us. In an act of hope, we tried the MCSPCA. In a remarkable twist of fate, I found Precious in one of the kennels there. I couldn't believe it, and we adopted her immediately. Precious settled in quickly and things went back to normal. She loves running around in the backyard and curling up on our laps or in bed with us. She is always goofy and great for a laugh, or great to cuddle with when you just need to cry about something. All in all, life without Precious in our family is boring and finding her again made life better for everyone.
Thank you MCSPCA,
Jenn N
Kodo
(was Coty), adopted February, 2006
Kodo (1yr 8mo), originally Coty, was adopted February 2006 from the MCSPCA. His original owners were tired of him getting loose and he had been in a previous car accident so they just gave up on him. He has received two training certificates and now has a sister to keep him company. Kodo is a happy, healthy, energetic Siberian husky who is spoiled rotten. He is a wonderful addition and a joy to love. We recently walked in our first MCSPCA dog walk and we had a blast.
The MCSPCA Dog Walk and Fair is usually the first Saturday of October, now at Brookdale Community College. Pay attention to our Events Page for updates!
Lucy, adopted December, 2004 and Reif, adopted January, 2006
My wife and I adopted Lucy in December, 2004 and Rief in January 2006.
We will start with Lucy (shown on the left). The moment she came into the house, she has thought of herself as Queen Lucy. She runs the place. She started by going directly out the back door and letting everyone know that she was there (barked for about 5 minutes). She has been a pleasure ever since she picked her up. She loves going for walks, greeting us at the door when we come home from work. She also knows when we do come home, she is getting a treat. We love her to death.
Now Rief (above on the right). We got Rief home and immediately he took to everyone. He is a big teddy bear. He loves to cuddle on the floor, get belly rubs and play outside in the back yard. He loves Lucy and everyone else in the house. He is very good on the leash when walking and listens very well. He along with Lucy greets everyone who enters the house. Both dogs together are great. They are always playing with each other.
Here is an update from Lucy and Rief themselves:
Hi everyone, this Lucy. Remember me? I was there from September to December 2004 before I was adopted by my new family. I have been very happy and always take me for walks that I love. I do get into trouble every now and then by digging in the garbage. I know I am not suppose to do it, but I do it anyway. My new owners even made me a new bed to sleep on which is very comfortable. I have another companion here, Rief, who was also adopted from the shelter. I will let him tell you how he is doing. Thank you so much for all the loving care you gave me while at the MCSPCA.
Hi guys, I am Rief, the big Ridgeback. I was there back in January when my new family came to take me home with them. I am loving every minute in my new home. My new family made me a bed that I love to sleep on. I have a sister named Lucy who is very cool to play with in the back yard. We always go for walks and get treats in the afternoon when mom and dad come home. I did have a couple of accidents in the house when my Dad decided to change my food on me and my stomach in not appreciate it. My Mom and Dad where angry with me but realized what they did and apologized. I am loving my new family and I heard that I might be getting a new brother today named Jack. I will let you know as soon as I know more. Take care and thank you for letting me go home with this wonderful family.

(was Lovely), adopted November, 2001
Update from Puddles
Hello! Just wanted to share this picture which shows our household’s sleeping arrangements have changed (for the better for me)!
Love, Puddles
Monty
(was Slingshot), adopted 2001
It was my 29th Birthday and just for the heck of it, with no intentions of even bringing a dog home, my wife and I decided to take a trip to the MCSPCA. After walking around, we found a beautiful female american bulldog named Maggie. We walked her but was told that someone else was looking at her also... So, not to get my hopes up, I split off from the wife to take another look around. I saw this short but skinny American Bulldog with his back towards me. As I walked up behind him, he turned and looked at me with a tired look on his face, scabs and sores, a dirt mark from his collar around his neck and drool coming off in the corner of his mouth... His head was the same size it is today but his body was skin and bones.....clearly neglected by his former family. Well.......I WANTED THIS DOG. My heart sank when I saw him and felt a bond at that moment. I asked to walk him and I couldn't ask for a better leash walker. He looked so pathetic with that bony body of his (he was about 40 lbs when we took him home to his new brother and sister, also from animal rescues). Well, it is 5 years later and 45 added pounds later, he hasn't left my side. He's actually sleeping right next to me on the couch as I type this (don't tell the wife). The name he had when I saw him was "Slingshot" but now bears the name "Monty" proudly. His former "family" kept him chained up outside all the time. Now he enjoys the nights (hogging the bed) and days by our side.
Vincy
(was Goofball Vic), adopted September, 2006
I'm so glad someone gave me a chance! My name is Vincy also known to the MCSPCA as goofball Vic. I thought I would never be adopted until one day when I was really feeling down and didn't think I could take it here anymore! An amazing woman and her daughter came in and adopted me. It was the happiest day of my life! I am the king of the house. I have tons of toys and play all day long. I go to to the park at least 4 times a week and play with my new brother Nikko, a 4 year old boxer. I love to give him kisses. I really am a goofball. I adapted immediately to my new home and family and wouldn't change it for the world. I only hope my friends at the shelter are given a chance like the family that gave me one!
Love Vincy (Goofball Vic) x0x0x0x0x0x
Pepe
(was Phantom), adopted August, 2006

Hello,
I just wanted to write a Thank You for my cat that you helped take care of, bring to health, and restore his trust in human nature. It is people like you that make my return home from work so exciting, the good times better, and the bad times comforting. I am not sure what happened to my boy Pepe (AKA Phantom) but he and I are so greatful for your help in his rescue. When I first walked in to the MCSPCA, I was looking for a companion for my 1 year old bengal Tika. She was very energetic and bouncy and I felt bad leaving her alone while at work. Your staff was so helpful in pointing Pepe right out to me as the friend to all cats. He was so beautiful, he had a scar on his face and his whiskers had been cut, but he was so spunky and playful, he purred the entire time I talked to him. I continued to look around and decided he was the one for Tika and I. After seven months of recuperation in the shelter he had gained some weight, when the staff took him out of his cage I could not believe how big he was. I have grown to love his pot belly and his little tufts of soft hair that he lets me pet. At first Tika and Pepe did not get along, he hid under the bed for the first few days and I figured once they got used to each other's smell I would introduce them. When they were introduced Pepe took over, he constantly chased poor Tika everywhere (it was love at first sight for Pepe). He began to remind me of the cartoon with the skunk Pepe La Pue, who constantly pursues that black cat that accidentaly got a white stripe on her back from walking under a fence. So that is how Phantom got his name changed, in his constant pursuit of Tika. For the first month it was so bad that she would not get off the furniture onto the floor, she was so afraid of being mounted. I even had to check to make sure that Pepe wasn't packing any surprises, his behavior was not that of a fixed cat. You will be happy to know now that Tika and Pepe are constant companions and best friends. They love to roll around on the floor and attempt sneak attacks and take downs on one another. While Tika is spoiled, Pepe seems greatful, he is constantly showering me with his love any way he can. Frequently I wake at night to him caressing my cheek with his soft paw and chirping in the way that he talks to me (which is half purr half meow without even opening his mouth) He is the best cat I've ever had, I love him with all my heart. Once again him and I would like to thank you for bringing happiness to all our lives.
Yours Truly,
Kari, Pepe and Tika
Sadie and Lily, adopted April, 2006
It's hard to believe over six months have passed since we adopted Sadie (black kitty)
and Lily (Bugatti as she was known to you, orange and brown tabby) -- or did they adopt us?
They've settled in quite well here in our house and 'big brother'
Stanley has finally realised they're not going away and had started to
play with them in his big brother way.
I've attached a big of the girls and one of the three our cats. I'm
amazed at how 'chubby' Lily has gotten -- she was slim in January, but
by June she was a butterball.
We are grateful to have both Lily and Sadie in our household -- except
for the "Thundering herd of wildebeests charging across the Serengeti"
game they like to play in the wee hours.
Thanks again to everyone at the MCSPCA for rescuing these special cats
and giving us the chance to give them a wonderful home. I think you'll
see us again soon - we're talking about bringing a dog into the family.
Warm regards,
Marci Schwartz
Hooch, adopted August, 2006
Hello Everyone!
I’m sorry it’s been so long since you heard from me but I’ve been very busy with my new family. And I’ve had a lot of stuff to learn too.
I have to say, you guys picked the right place for me. My new brother, Shadow (to the right), was in the MCSPCA for a while, so he understands where I’m coming from and has really helped me to adjust to my new house. And, Dava, my new sister was a stray when she came here and assured me that my new parents are okay. We’re all the best of friends now and I love hanging out with them.
My new family is very active too, except for Dava. They get up early every day and take me and Shadow to the park every morning. And, if its not tooooooo hot, we go in the afternoon too. Shadow shows me where all of the most important messages are left so I can keep up with everything and introduce myself to all the other dogs that go to the park. It’s a lot of work but a lot of fun too. Then I get to go swimming in the lake!!! My mom and dad throw in big sticks for me so I can swim out and bring them back. (Hello, I’m a Retriever)
When we get home, my mom dries me off with a big, soft towel. (I love that) Then she gives us all a little treat before she makes us our breakfast. The food she gives us is great too. It’s got big chunks of chicken and vegetables in it, YUMMM! That really makes me look forward to dinner.
In between meals, we just relax. We lay out in the big backyard or we rest on the couch.
Sometimes we get interrupted by the mailman and the grass cutters but after we scare them away we just chill. When my mom goes out, I go on the bed. At first I thought she would get mad so, when I heard her open the door, I jumped down. Then one day, I was sooooo tired from our morning walk that I didn’t hear her come in (a German Shepherd I’m not) and she caught me. I was a little scared but she just came over to me and gave me hugs and kisses and told me how cute I am. Isn’t that great!!?
Finally, to make me feel more at home here, my mom and dad got me a bunch of squeaky toys. I LOVE SQUEAKY TOYS!!! And, at night, I lay on the couch with them and they hold the toys over my head and make me snatch them away. That’s my favorite time of the day. I never really snatch the toy away from them cause I just love layin on the couch with them.
Thank you all soooooo much for taking such good care of me while I was there. I’ll never forget you and your love and kindness. I know you all prayed for me to get a good home and, believe me, they were answered.
Wags and Big Sloppy Licks,
HOOCH
Fat Tony
(was Tober), adopted 2005
 Hi Everyone:
I wanted to let everyone know how happy I am in my forever home. I am very spoiled boy... I get hugs, treats and kisses all the time..I've really got her trained! I want to thank everyone for taking such good care of me during my stay!

Bonnie and Buster
, adopted November, 2005
We adopted Buster and Bonnie in November 2005. My fiance and I thought we wanted a medium size dog but once I saw these two and took them for a walk my heart just melted!! I was a bit nervous about having two dogs but now we couldn't imagine our lives without them! Buster is a goofball who always wants to play fetch with his favorite ball and Bonnie loves sitting or laying on people looking for lovin'. No matter what kind of a day we've had these two bring smiles to our faces the second we walk through the door!! Buster and Bonnie are going to be well-traveled too--Florida this summer and a trip across the country next summer, but they'll be staying home in November when we go on our honeymoon!
Thank you Bernice for bringing us into the small dog room!
Arthur
(was Switchblade), adopted December, 2006
This is Arthur, (was known as Switchblade), who was adopted December 26th. He is such a Mush, so funny, handsome, and, from Day 1, adapted to my home like he always lived here!! My niece took these picures...he "hams it up" when visitors come over. He loves his new home.
Arthur found me through the cage and it was "Love at first sight"!! Thanks to all at MCSPCA!! Sincerely, Sharon and Arthur!

Cremesickle, adopted December, 2006
Hi Everyone!
It's Cremesickle! I was adopted 3 weeks ago after having spent 10 months at the wonderful Monmouth County SPCA. I miss everyone, but I am doing really
well. I am really enjoying my new home. My new friends are great and we
spend a lot of time together! They love to pet me and give me treats! My vet
says I look great and I can expect to live a long and happy life. I hope
everyone is doing well. Take care!
With love,
Cremesickle, Kerri and Fred DiBrienza
Sadie,
adopted 2004
In 2001 I found my Sadie Beagle on Petfinder.com, she was at Monmouth County SPCA, in Eatontown, NJ. We were looking for a dog that would be good with children, Sadie went straight over to the kids and gently leaned up against them to be petted. It was as if she knew she had to be more gentle with children. For them she is gentle on the leash and take treats out of their hands with her tongue so not to accidentally nip them. With adults she is totally different, energetic and a little wild girl. She also inspired me to volunteer at local animal shelters and get involved in animal welfare. We started Little Furries Rescue and Referral 6 months after adopting Sadie.
Five years have gone by, and we can't imagine life without our Sadie Beagle
Teddy,
adopted March, 2005
Kevin my fiancé and I Robin adopted Teddy last March 2005. He is a beautiful blue gray tiger cat. Teddy was taken care of by Joan one of the foster mothers. He is now 14 months old wow time flew. Teddy looks like a Russian blue. He is loved beyond words. Teddy loves to talk. He has 2 houses and a ton of toys.. He sleeps on our bed. He is very smart boy... Teddy plays tag, he taps our legs, and waits. Then chases us... We might put him in commercials !!! We lost our beloved kitty Fluffy last year in March, and not long after we got Teddy. He is the love of our lives........... We thank you and Joan Huegel for bringing him to us.. We are thinking of getting a female companion for him. Teddy sings a little song when he wakes up from a nap like he's calling- to make sure mommy and daddy are home. We will send pictures of our beautiful boy soon. We are living in Eatontown so not far!
I have enclosed a few pictures of Teddy, although now he is 16 months old. These were when he was about 5 months. My name is Teddy I am the luckiest boy in the world. My new Daddy fell in love with me right away... Mommy took a while she was missing her cat Fluffy who she had lost. Well when I met mommy, it didn't take more than 10 mins, and it was Love@ first sight. I am the king! Daddy and Mommy have me sleep on the bed, I have my own condo and house.... Tons of toys ! Teddy is a beautiful blue grey tiger mix. He is now 16 months old... He is a talker, and loves to play tag!!! Hide and seek he loves to play period......... He is the sweetest kitty in the world, he has green/yellow eyes. We love him so much!!! Well I wanted to say hi to everyone at the MCSPCA. I am the King of my castle, what more could a kitty want.
Thanks for bringing such joy... Kevin, Robin and Teddy!
Lexi, adopted February, 2005
Hi, Lexi Adopted Feb 2005 Sorry it took so long to write. My name is Lexi, I was adopted on Feb 21st 2005 from the MCSPCA. I was only at the shelter for a week but I was happy to be adopted. When I first came home I was very sick with stomach problems. My parents took me to the vet and I got lots of medication. Now I'm a very healthy girl. My mom and dad spoil me rotten. I love them very much. I get to go on long car rides with them and we spend all of our time together on the weekends. I just celebrated by 2nd birthday!! I needed to be house trained when I first got home but I'm doing great now!! I warmed up quickly to my new surrounding. I get treated like a princess. My parents play with me all the time. My dad likes to take me running and to the tennis courts where I like to play with sticks. I love to be around people and give them hugs and kisses. My favorite spot to sleep is on the bed snuggling with my parents. I've gained a little to much weight since I've been adopted so I now have to go on a diet. I think that was from all the treats that my parents like to give me. I'm a very happy girl.
Love, Lexi (parents Mike & Danielle)
Simba and Nina (were Fuzzy Cat and Nina),
adopted January 2006
On January 7, 2006, we adopted 2 cats. Their names (at the shelter) were Fuzzy Cat and Nina. Upon entering our family, Fuzzy Cat became Simba (because he thinks he's king of the house). These two are the best of friends! Simba and Nina play all the time, and when they're tired, cuddle up together and take a nap. It's especially endearing since they have very different personalities (Nina's a lap cat who loves to give kisses, while Simba is a bit more standoffish), and look totally different (Nina's small and black & white, while Simba is much bigger and white & orange tabby). We've attached a photo of our two kitties. Thank you so much to everyone at the shelter who helped our two while they were with you!
Love and meows, Alison, Bob, Simba, and Nina.

Isabelle, adopted April, 2006
After spending six months at the Monmouth County SPCA, Isabelle (third
from the left) has found a home with Saki, Tori, and Jack (L-R). Saki
and Jack also lived at the MCSPCA for four and eight months,
respectively, so they have a lot in common. Isabelle's fault, was her
inability to display a good first impression. She may have some mild
neurological problems, probably affecting her eyesight, causing her to
stare intensely at anyone she doesn't know very well. But now that
she's home, she happily greats everyone, even strangers. She's
especially fond of Jack, and even lets Saki retain her 'alpha dog'
status. Thanks to everyone who made her stay at the shelter as
comfortable as possible.
Paul & Kate

Gus (was Lobo) , adopted December, 2005
Hello! We adopted Lobo/Gus on December 17, 2005. Although my husband and I just went to look, I feel in love with Gus as soon as I saw him. Although quite timid at first, he has definately warmed up since then. It was a little rough in the beginning, I think he was a little anxious in the beginning (he ate 2 couches), but I think he has now figured out that he is here to stay and that we love him very much. His favorite things to do are sleep on his bed, play ball, rough house, and play with his stuffed teddy. I am so glad that we found him and that we are able to take care of such a great dog.
Kate and Joe Cameron

Claire, adopted January, 2006
To all those who remember her, here is Claire. She is doing superbly. She couldn't be any sweeter. She adjusted very well to her new surroundings and has dubbed the couch her new bed. Her personality shines brighter and brighter every day. We found out recently that she does not like thunderstorms. Poor thing. If she wants attention she will go grab one of her many toys and jump up on my parent's water bed. She pays no mind really to the birds. The cat however is a different story. We catch her every once in a while sniffing under my door but that's about it. She is probably outside of my door right now waiting for me to come out and pay more attention to her. We get the belly every day. We are going to try to send you some pictures soon of how goofy this dog has become and what a companion she is. She did graduate her basic obedience and listens to us most of the time. For those that really remember Claire, she had her moments where she would say no and not listen at all. She learned how to give paw. The rolling over trick is still being worked on but she gets it a little bit. There is so many stories already I could tell you but I don't think you want me to take up too much space. She says hi and she misses all of her friends out there. God bless you guys for all that you do.
Love always, The Briggs Family
