Dear

The
Amy Pickles saga and how she got her name -In August, I convinced my husband that our house needed a little excitement, and went to the MCSPCA to see who was there. I was so overwhelmed by the amount of cats and kittens there, I knew my search was going to be tough. Should I get a grown cat? Maybe JoJo (my Pomeranian) would be too rough with a kitten ; and Roxanne (13 year old American Eskimo) loves everyone and everything, so no problem there. But how would Lucy (12 year old Angora stray) and Spike (9 year old tuxedo meatloaf) fare with a grown cat? Hummmm.... Quite a dilemma. I went to the SPCA on my lunch hour for 3 days, talking to all the cats and kittens. On the third day, I was on my way out the door, and THERE SHE WAS. A teeny siamese mix kitten that was having so much fun jumping and racing around in her cage. I picked her up and looked into her turquoise blue eyes, and knew she had to come home with me. But, I had to go back to work, and couldn't adopt her right then. On top of that, it was Tuesday, and the SPCA was closed on Wednesday, and I wouldn't be able to pick her up until Thursday afternoon! I frantically called that afternoon, and Wednesday, pleading not to let her get adopted until I could get back Thursday afternoon! When I showed up on Thursday, she was still there, and on her cage, her tag said "going home"!! I took her to her new home, with brother and sisters waiting. Now, here's the funny part of the this story: I called my best friends, Sue and Mike to let them know that I just got a new baby, and for them to come over and meet her. Well, it just HAPPENED that they were at the SPCA that previous Sunday, donating blankets. When they saw her at my house, they told me that THEY almost adopted her! It was pure karma that my best friends would pick out the SAME kitten as me! I originally thought I was going to adopt a male orange tiger cat, and name him Onslo, so it took us 3 days to come up with a girl's name - Sue said she liked names that started with the letter "A", and my husband was picking out names like Shoebox, and Mayonnaise. (so much for graduate school -jeez) So, between Sue and I, we came up with Amy, and my husband came up with Pickles. So there is the story of Amy Pickles - or Amy Kosher Dill... She is doing great and has made a home in our house and in our hearts. She wrestles with JoJo and terrorizes Spike (who has 15 pounds on her), annoys Lucy, and gives Roxanne kisses. What a great cat - thanks MCSPCA!!! Joan and Gil Carlson |
| Hello MCSPCA
I just saw this page and I thought I would add an update on Nero and Marcus. I wish I had a picture to attach, but anyway... for those who don't remember, Marcus is an 8 year old big white and grey male. Cute as anything. Probably the cutest cat I've ever seen. And Nero is now 9 months, mostly all black. In their cages they were so sedate and quiet. NOT EVEN CLOSE anymore. Fortunately the two of them get along incredibly well. They play and run around our house for hours each day. Marcus is actually very communicative -- he talks alot, has superior eye contact, and demands attention. He loves belly rubs, he loves to play, and he runs around after Nero, who is a total spaz (in a good way, but yikes he flies around the house like a blur of fur and legs in all directions). The funniest is watching them play because Nero is small (6 lbs) but Marcus is about three times the size of him (15lbs!!) They are doing extremely well!!! I'm so glad I came and got the both of them. Thank you for what you do for animals who would otherwise be cold, sick, and hungry this time of year. Happy Holidays |
Hi-
I'm Luke. My Mom adopted me from the shelter about two and a half years
ago (March 2000) when I was just a little tike. Things are great here. Sometimes
I get in to trouble, but nobody's perfect. In general everyone seems to
think I am an excellent boy and everybody loves me. But how can you not
when I'm so cute? I recently alerted my mommy to a near fire in the house
and I'm getting extra pampering and treats right now!! She says I'm the
smartest dog she's ever known. My mommy got married this summer and I got be at the wedding, here is a picture of me in my tux. Thanks Again, |
|
I had her since October
10th 2002. She eats well. I got her when she was six weeks old. She is
so playful and loveable! I love her so much and she is smart- she gives
me kisses! I will have a picture of her this summer. She a big checker
rabbit, she is so pretty and cute and she is so fast some times I can't
catch her. |

Hi everyone, thought you
might like to hear how one of your long timers is doing. |

Hello - |
| About 5 years ago my wife
and I adopted Mitch and Savannah( A black and white 6 toed cat and a little
tabby), and we wanted to let the Monmouth County SPCA know that they are
doing very well together and have forged a unique bond between them - they
stay together quite a lot. We picked these two cats because they were in
the shelter for about 6 months each - Savannah in the cages and Mitch in
the room in out in the front lobby. They still suffer some affects of being
mistreated from earlier owners but are adjusting very well. We found that
Mitch was afraid of brown shoes so we think his previous owner threw things
at him. He is a very needy cat and I can see how someone who didn't love
him could do that. At first we often had to be with Mitch at his food dish
to get him started eating. Savannah on the other hand had nooooo problem eating - in the first couple of years she would often eat her food and then Mitch's. She has learned however that she can't steal his food. They are both doing well and are affectionate - and we like to think happy to be with us. Thanks for listening, Jim and Merry |

Well, Sammy is letting me
know it's time for her dessert. Thank you all for the love and care you
shower on this 'unwanted' pets. |
Back
on April 30, 2000 we adopted Sasha - a 1 year old husky (tag 2391) from
your shelter. This little girl with her big blue eyes stole our hearts immediately.
Little did we know the ride we were in for. Sasha was nervous, had separation
anxiety problems and like all other Huskies, was quite the mischief maker! It's over 2 years now and our "fuzzy little girl" is three. Along with her new life, we gave her a new name, Sierra - and she is a cherished member of our family. No matter how many fences she knocks down, no matter how many holes I twist my ankle in (haha!) this beauty is the love of our lives. She gives the best kisses and hugs in the world. We are currently looking for a "partner in crime" for Sierra and I was visiting your site - I just wanted to say thank you for all you do and send you a current pic of Sasha (she was so skinny then!) we just love her. Thank you for taking care of her. With my warmest regards, Laurie, Paul, Ryan and Taylor Dinardi |
![]() Just wanted to send you a pic of me in my new house and let everyone know how I'm doing. Thanks for taking such good care of me when I didn't have a home anymore! I'm OK here. They made me get this crazy surgery (its called neutering or something) and I wasn't very happy about that! The man of the house was very sad for me, but it made mom happy so i guess i'll live with it. I am recovering well minus the fact everyone was mean and locked me up for 7-10 days for "healing". My mom has these two crazy dogs that she adopted before me but I think they are OK. I kind of like the one who looks like a cat. I like to cuddle with him on the couch and he is very protective of me. He thinks I'm another dog. My mom keeps giving me some silly stuffed animals but i prefer the cup and the fake carrot. I hope she isn't too offended. We hang out every single night and listen to music while she plays on that silly computer. I have my own room so things aren't so bad. I'd prefer a tough guy room with weights and stuff, but its kind of wimpy with a jungle theme. Can't complain, the food is good. I can't understand why she gets upset when I take things out of her hand (like cheese-its) but we'll have to let her slide. She told me that if I am good, that one day very soon she will go adopt a girlfriend for me! She'd best keep her word! Take care everyone! Go adopt little animals too! Duncan Hi, this is Duncan from
Little Furries rescue in Brick (I'm the little black and white guy). I
got adopted a few months back and I am the Prince in the house. My owner
is a little goofy but I guess she will do. She cuddles me like I'm a two
month old. Can you believe that!? I'm not a baby! I guess as long as she
keeps giving me those bunny treats that I love so much I'll keep her.
I have a pretty nice pad...I have my own room which is pretty cool and
I love spending every night with my mom. She likes to cuddle. I lay at
her feet while she types away at that silly computer. Duncan |
My brother, Joseph, received
a young puppy (Border-Collie mix) from the MCSPCA as an eighth grade graduation
present that he was going to be able to bring between both of our parents'
houses. The puppy came from a large group of dogs that were being rescued
from a local location. The puppy came home and my sister suggested naming
her Clara, after the lead character in one of her favorite ballets, The
Nutcracker. Being a very hyperactive, playful puppy, she caused my brother
to quickly find the dog run out at Thompson Park - a great place for Clara
to release an immense amount of energy. Through
friends at the dog run, Joseph and my dad found out that another dog from
Clara's group was at the MCSPCA. Joseph convinced my dad to look at Snow
Cloud (pictured to the left). Snow Cloud had come from another home that
he had escaped from. He was a clever dog that preferred to be outside and
on his own. He was very uncomfortable around his human companions. After
a little convincing, my dad said that I could bring him home as my dog that
he would look after when I was away at school. This was so much fun, but
seemed like it would be some work. So far, Snow Cloud (American Eskimo Mix)
seems to enjoy his home, but he is still nervous around people. He loves
to sleep in the corner at the head of my bed. A
week later, after looking on-line, we realized that Snow Cloud had a sibling,
King (Border-Collie Mix, pictured to the right), at the MCSPCA. My dad and
I went over to visit King. He was just as nervous as Snow Cloud. With some
convincing and the realization that King would "dance" with my
dad, he agreed to bring him home and foster him for a night. When we brought
him home, Snow Cloud and King really bonded immediately. This looked very
hopeful, and the next day, my dad adopted King. King has really helped to
make Snow Cloud more comfortable and has really taken to my dad. Now we
are one big happy house with my dad, three sons, three dogs, and four cats. |
| Our
friend Petey, a pit-bull mix, was turned in to us one year ago. She had
given birth to many litters as evidenced by her hanging nipples. She suffered
from allergies that irritated her skin and about 1/3 of her body had no
hair, only pink, sore skin. She was the front desk mascot and each morning
was let out of her crate and quickly jumped into a chair to supervise everyone's
activities. Although one of the sweetest dogs in the shelter, Petey was
always overlooked because of her skin condition and her breed. Finally her
prince charming came along and glass slipper fit easily onto Petey's paw.
She was whisked off to live a life of splendor in a castle filled with love.
Here is Petey's first letter she wrote to us telling us how she is doing.
Petey now has her own page, telling us about all her adventures. Go to Petey's
page HERE. 5/13/02 Dear Everybody, Just
wanted you to know that I'm doing VERY well. I'm still training my "Man
Servant" but he catches on rather quickly as to what I like and don't
like and tries very hard to please me. I've sort of given up on my "cage"
for the nice soft leather couch in the den on which I've had my "Man
Servant" place a warm sheepskin blanket for those chilly spring nights.
As to food, it took awhile to get my diet straight, but now I have him making
things like oatmeal or scrambled eggs and turkey sausage for my breakfast
and for dinner, rice with either boiled chopped sirloin or baked chicken.
All in all, I can't complain too much about the food or the service. Last
Sunday (Mother's Day), a large part of my new family came to see me. All
of them were very nice to me and seemed to fall in love with me but then,
who couldn't fall in love with me. Unfortunately my "Man Servant"
also has lots of grandchildren but, they spent a lot of time petting and
hugging me and I guess I can stand this once in awhile. I get to ride in
the car a great deal and I really enjoy that. In the milder weather I have
my servant open the window so I can stick my head out and let my ears flap
in the wind (it's a nice feeling). Also, when we stop at places like the
clearners or gas station, all of the people working there give me dog biscuits.
This isn't the greatest for my waistline, but then again, one must make
sacrifices. After all, I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings by refusing
the biscuits. Well, I have to go now. It's time for my morning ride in the
car. I'm having my servant make out a check as a donation from ME to the
animal shelter that took such good care of me for so long. I love each and
every one of you and miss you all. Love and Licks, Petey P.S. The old guy says I follow him around like his shadow, but the truth is, I'm worried he might get lost without me and end up in a "People Shelter". Don't try to contact me next week, I'm going to Canada to check out my new summer home by lake - If I like it, I'll let the family keep it. |
. We
have been lucky enough to adopt three beautiful animals from MCSPCA. The
family picture on the left was taken on 3/30/02, the day we brought our
newest addition, Ghost, home. Alice (brown shepherd mix) is introducing
Ghost (white lab mix) to Rocky the rabbit (so named because of her black
eyes) while Miss Muffet pretends not to care that she is the only non MCSPCA
alumni. Alice, adopted in 1996, was found in Bensonhurst Brooklyn with her
brother and they were named after Alice and Ralph Kramden. Alice and Miss
Muffet (a stray found that same year) grew up together and would often play
under watchful eyes. Alice will lay down in the living room
and Miss Muffet will jump over her back, circling around her head and do
the same again and again. She loves to climb onto Alice's head only to get
playfully flipped off, and she even spends time keeping Alice's ears clean!
We
decided to give Miss Muffet a playmate and adopted Rocky on 11/20/2000.
When we first introduced the bunnies, they erupted in a ball of flying fur,
but with time, patience, and love, they are now inseparable (although Miss
Muffet still loves the time she gets with her old friend Alice!). After
seeing how loving the bunnies were, we decided it was time to get another
playmate for Alice. When we saw Ghost, we could not believe that he was
so mistreated before being brought to the shelter. We know that it was thanks
to the love and hard work of the staff and volunteers at MCSPCA to nurse
him back to health that makes him so happy-go-lucky! It
is just amazing to see how playful he is despite his previous condition.
He is a very intelligent dog. It only took a few minutes to teach him to
use the doggie door and now goes into his crate (usually) when we say "crate".
He is also well on his way to being "curb trained". We play with
Alice in our front yard and she never steps off the curb onto the street
(we live on a quiet cul-de-sac). She will chase tennis balls with a vengeance,
but if one accidentally goes into the street, she always stops and just
looks at it. It amazes everyone! With close supervision, Ghost is also learning
the same. They also play unsupervised in our fenced back yard. We have spied
on them from the 2nd floor window and happily seen them playing with each
other as though they have known each other for years.
When bed time rolls around both dogs now prefer the king size bed and our company to the crate. It is amazing how little room they leave us with after they get settled. Sometimes we get confused as to whose bed it is! Of course all we need to say is 'down' and they will both (reluctantly) move to the floor. How anyone could have abandoned Alice in a dumpster as a puppy, or mistreated/starved Ghost is something that is totally incomprehensible to us. We hope that we never give them any reason to remember even one second of their previous lives. Sincerely, The Tilps |
When I first
went to the MCSPCA, I wanted to help by taking an animal home with me to
love and care for. I walked in the door and my heart went out to all of
the animals that were inside of their cages. Through my tour of the cats,
I came across a bunch of loving kitties
and it was hard to make up my mind. I wanted to load them all into my car
and take every last one of them home. But of course, I knew I couldn't.
As I walked through the rooms introducing myself to all of the cats, I thought
I wanted a little baby kitten. Doesn't everyone? There were such beautiful
kittens, but I was then told about a cat named Barry who was 6 and a half
years old who was near a lifer in the MCSPCA (In for 2 YEARS!!!). He was
originally called Rage because he was not so outgoing and would try to bite
or scratch. I remember when I first saw him, he was looking out the window
with sad eyes, and when I came near him, I sat on the windowsill and began
to gently pet him. He purred like a kitten and his tail began wagging. The
girls said that he was not normally like that and that nobody really wanted
him because of his non-friendly temperament. He had been there for two whole
years. Well forget the kittens, I wanted to give this boy a home. And that
is just what I did. When we got home, he went on to explore his new home
with excitement. Since the day I got him, which was also my birthday, March
3, I have found him to be the most tender and loving cats I have ever seen.
He is so grateful to have a home and a loving mommy to care for him. He
greets me after work at the door like a puppy would, wagging his tail and
rubbing himself up on me. At night, he sleeps curled around my head. He
is such a tender little boy and I couldn't be happier to have him as mine.
I have learned to love my little Barry to death and he will be mine always.
No more MCSPCA for him. I can't express how glad I am that I looked past
his demeanor there. He was probably just scared and "enraged"
at not being taken home to a loving family. Thank you for allowing me to
be able to have this precious boy for mine. I hope so many others will have
the same experience. And to all of the people that work at the MCSPCA, Barry
is wonderful and happy as ever. I will scan some pictures of him when I
get a chance.
Sincerely, |
We
adopted our kitty on 2/12/02. We named her Bridget Jones. She was at the
shelter as a stray and was just so sweet. The moment we layed eyes on her
we fell in love. When we brought her home, my ohter cat , Madison, was a
little jealous, but she got over it and now they are the best of friends.
We are enclosing a picture of Bridget Jones. What a sweet baby she is. She
is so affectionate and loyal, we couldn't have asked for a better little
kitty. Thanks!Suzanne & Erik Van Ness |
I am writing to let you know how well one of your alumni cats is doing.
We adopted Cecilia Rose on 12/20/2001. Initially I was having a very difficult time deciding which cat I wanted to take home, but on my
2nd visit to your shelter, this wide-eyed cutie caught my eye. I decided
to wait a day or two to decide if she was the one for me, and when I went
back for the 3rd (!!!) time in a week, I decided yes, the little charmer
was meant to be mine. She had only been in the shelter less than a week
(she came in on my dad's birthday in fact--something I took as a sign of
fate) so she didn't have a name there, but her personality was apparent.
Every time I saw her she was relaxing, sprawled out on her blanket--sometimes
right-side-up, other times upside down, always with her paws reaching out
and kneading. She was going to And sure enough, a loveable one she is! And
a chatterbox too--I can't get her to keep quiet! She loves to wake me up
in the morning as soon as my alarm goes off; heaven forbid I hit snooze!
She keeps up a constant stream of chatter throughout the day. She may decide
to say hello, to tell me she's hungry, she wants to play, she's done eating,
or even just a nice "mreow" to let me know she loves me. Her variety
of tones to express her emotions is absolutely the funniest thing I have
ever heard, and keeps me quite
entertained. Our constant flow of communication is something I really value,
as is her companionship. She has to know where I am at all times, and cannot
stand to be left out! The only time she is happy to be apart is when I am
showering--no surprise there! This cat is the most easy-going, talkative
feline I have ever run into, and I love her so much. I want to thank you
for bringing her into my life!
Sincerely, P.S. Here are some pictures
of her in her favorite places and positions: curled up on "her"
blue chair, and sprawled out on "our" bed. She loves to lounge! |
Goldie
(formerly Diamond) was adopted September 21, 2001. She is exceptionally
smart (what a memory!), a really loving dog, and boy does she like to play
ball and go for walks. Goldie is somewhere between the age of 3-4. There
was a short adjustment period when she first came home (she played chew
toy with her new owners hands, and yes her new owners squeaked), but since
she's so smart and eager to please, she has learned to give doggy kisses
instead. She was in excellent health when her owners adopted her, and she
continues to be a fit and bright-eyed companion. Goldie loves the car, carrots,
watching birds, and ice cubes. Her owners learn more and more about her
entertaining personality each day, and they can't imagine how they ever
lived life without her. Thanks MCSPCA for Goldie, and thanks for all your work for dogs, cats, and little critters. |
| Hi,
I know it's really soon after my recent adoption (as in it was just yesterday),
but I did want to say how nice everyone at the shelter was during my visit
there amidst the Saturday crowds and I thought I'd share with you a couple
pictures and short notes about the first days' experiences of the two cats
I adopted that I sent to a few friends and family members... Saturday I went to the Monmouth County SPCA and adopted two cats I'd picked out from their web site. It was rather busy there, and I'd gotten there just 8 minutes after they opened, and took me almost 3 hours to get them, and admittedly I was surprised the two I'd picked out were still there after the week it took me to get to the place. Phantom
is an 11-month old Siamese mix. She was adopted by another family and returned
to the shelter shortly thereafter when the family decided they wanted a
cat who liked to be picked up. Phantom apparently doesn't care for that
(yet), but when she lets you get close, she loves petting. When she got
to my house, she was immediately the explorer, checking out everything.
She seems to have decided that this perch on a dresser is her favorite spot
of the moment (I think she likes the mirror image of herself), but every
once in awhile she can be found racing up and down the stairs and hiding
behind or underneath some piece of furniture while watching what's around
her. She's probably most responsible for getting Sally to move out from
under the sofa since she sniffed her out and joined her there for a short
while, and not soon after I found Sally out in the open for the first time. This
is Sally. She's a 9 year-old Calico and has the same "don't you dare
pick me up" attitude as Phantom, though she does let you get close
enough to try! She spent her first 3 or 4 hours hiding out underneath the
sofa (but I could reach under and pet her and she didn't run away), then
another hour or so behind the loveseat, but with her head poking out far
enough to see what's going on. She finally began venturing out and doing
a little exploring, though, and has already come around and jumped on my
lap for a little attention while I was at the computer, lazily relaxed on
the kitchen floor a few times, and joined me on the sofa for a short while
watching TV. But whenever she's finished roaming she returns to safety behind
the loveseat. She'd been at the shelter since January 2000, 2 whole years,
so this is probably a pretty new experience for her after being there so
long. She's color coordinated with the sofa and loveseat, so maybe that's
why she likes this location so much. Both of them have already figured out where the food and water are, and where the litter box is. But I don't think either of them has traveled up to the third floor yet to explore the rest of the house. I expect soon enough they'll figure out where to go in the morning to get their food service started. :) |

Dear
Friends at the MCSPCA: I
thought you might like to know what my year has been like since my adoption.
You've already seen what a cushy lifestyle I now have. In addition to
"3 squares", I get my share of leftovers each day - but not
so much as to increase my girth! In the beginning, I was overprotective
of Bob and could be quite aggressive toward passerby while on our walks.
But, Bob has been very patient, though firm, and with the passage of time
my behavior is much improved. I'd even go so far as to say it's exemplary!
(Mostly true says "The Daddy"!). Bob often
brings me to visit his lady friend (known to me as "The Mommy").
She has a very nice large yard where I can relax and frolic. I even have
my own room there *and* my own bed! Life is good. |
Thank
you so much for sending me the lovely Lucy (formerly Sara, on the left)
and gorgeous Georgia (formerly Cupie). Lucy really lives up to her namesake,
Lucille Ball. She is a great physical comedian, entertaining from morning
'til night with her antics. Shredding paper (napkins, newspaper, homework(!))
is one of her favorite activities. Georgia was named for George Burns, but
she is more like a Southern (Georgia) belle, dainty and as sweet as can
be-and a great eater, too. Both kitties have adjusted to their new home
very nicely and are a joy to have around. |

I
recently visited your website and wanted to let you know how one of your
alumni is doing. My husband Jay and I adopted our dog Jeannie in September
2000. She was luckily rescued by Stu, her knight in shining armor, and nursed
back to health by your wonderful staff. Jeannie unfortunately suffered at
the hands of her former owners, but we welcomed her into our hearts instantly
and she fits right into our home. She's the sweetest, most gentle creature
and is definitely my "baby." Since we've had Jeannie, she's gained
about 15 pounds and absolutely loves going for walks. She's a healthy, playful,
energetic dog who also loves to lounge in bed with me. Jeannie and her brother
Simon are also enjoying their new home with a fenced in backyard where they
love to play and relax. I want to give my most sincere thanks to all the
wonderful people at the MCSPCA who gave Jeannie the chance at a wonderful
life. Please know that I love her dearly and spoil her rotten. Thank you
for bringing her into my life and please keep up the good work. There are
more animals like Jeannie who need your help. Thanks, Jennifer Boenig |
Well,
Buddy's story started with my daughter Missy wanting a dog. We took a ride
to Eatontown with my wife, just
to look. My wife was very specific in the type of dog she wanted. A small
dog, with short hair, good temperment, and loving. We looked throughout
the center and found nothing, until my nosey daughter went into the side
room off the desk area. There in a cage was Buddy. Missy called my wife
(I was looking elsewhere) and the two of them started talking and petting
through the cage, and they fell in love with him. We got a volunteer to
take him out for us, we walked him a little and decided to adopt. Its exactly
what my wife didn't, big and long hair. But his personality beat those problems.
That was I think in August of 2000. When we got Buddy home he settled in
with Scratchy our cat and became one of the family. We have never had a
better behaved dog, although he has taken over my son's bed! Thanks again
to all the folks in Eatontown for our new member of the family.
Missy,
Linda and Frank Streckfuss |

To
my friends at the MCSPCA, |
Dear
Elisa (and everyone at MCSPCA),
I just wanted to drop you a note and let you know how "Razz" is doing. I hope you remember him. He's been with us a whole year now, and I can't tell you how much we all love him. And we know the feeling is mutual. He's so beautiful and smart and so well behaved! He has many favorite pastimes and attached is a picture of one of his favorites. We
just wanted you to know "Bandit" is loving her new home. Please
tell Mike she is doing well and chewing everything. She especially loves
toes. As a reminder "Bandit" is the tan shepard-mix pup we adopted
on June 29. I am attaching a precious photo of her lounging out in her new yard. Thanks again - we'll see you soon for the little chop-chop! Glenn and Sheryl |
|
On June, 10, 2001 Josh and I adopted the most wonderful 3 1/2 month old Lab-mix puppy who we named Leah. In the short time that we have had her she has managed to snuggle her way into our hearts to the point that we would not know what to do without her. After being rescued from wandering around in the middle of a busy road, Leah is now a very happy and healthy puppy who is adored by anyone and everyone. As you can see from the pictures Leah is extremely spoiled. She loves to go for long walks, play catch on or off the beach and go for rides in the car. She especially loves going to visit her grandma and grandpa for Sunday dinner! Josh and I would like to thank the MCSPCA for giving us the opportunity to create our own little family. Sincerely, |

Here
is MCSPCA alumnus Fredo, who was with us for a very long time and was well
loved by everyone at the
shelter.. He is now named Sebastian and as you can see, he has found a great home! He gets to lounge on the couch, and he loves to sit outside in the sun! Congratulations, Fredo, on your new, loving home! |

After our beloved 11 year old, adopted dog Shelby, died last year, my family and I wanted another dog but we weren't sure if any dog could take her place. I visited MCSPCA several times looking for the right dog. On one visit Elisa asked me what kind of dog I was looking for and I told her ... friendly and affectionate. Elisa said she knew just the dog for me. Her name was Jello, a mix of pit bull and whippet, but she was in isolation due to kennel cough. I saw Jello through the window and thought I had found our new dog. When I visited her again the following week she was well enough for me to spend time with and I knew she was the one. Well, that was 7 months ago and Jello, renamed Sadie, has worked her way into our hearts. She is loving, affectionate, smart and playful. Everything you could hope for in a pet. She was in great health when we took her home and our vet said that the shelter did a wonderful job keeping her well. She continues to thrive and we love her more than ever. She is a 55 pound strong, wiry year old puppy who insists on being a lap dog! Her favorite activities are lounging on the couch, looking out the big picture window and playing ball. She sleeps in our bed with us, of course. Where else would a dog who thinks she's a person sleep? I can't thank all the people at the shelter, particularly Elisa, for all the love and attention they shower these "unwanted" animals. Anyone can house an animal but only special people can make it a home. Thank you so much. Sincerely,
Eileen Roberti and family |
Just
wanted to give you an update on how wonderful Roxy's life turned out, and
what good work you do! My husband
and I adopted Roxy over 2 years ago at one of your Pet Smart adoption weekends.
I have to admit I strong armed the poor man, but I wasn't leaving without
her. When we first adopted Roxy she had been in a foster home because she
was too scared at the shelter. Once we adopted her, for the longest time,
she remained extremely timid, too scared to venture out of our family room.
Two years later after obedience training, agility training and lots of time with her people - she is bordering on downright brave (sometimes) Roxy plays on the beach a couple of times a week, is learning how to be a good sailor on her new sail boat, spends a day or two a week causing trouble at doggie day care, sleeps under the covers on our bed, and is basically a spoiled princess. And the most important part is that she and my husband are totally in love with each other (which is good since they spend all day together!) Just want to thank you all for the good work you do. There are too many terrible stories and if you can just turn a few of them into success stories, you should be proud knowing what a huge difference your making! Keep the faith, Nancy & Scott Kornblum |

We
adopted Gus (formerly known at the MCSPCA as Ren) in September, 2000. He
is a wonderful, loving dog who gives us so much pleasure every day being
in our lives. He has grown into a beautiful animal. He is atleast 110 lbs
now, but is very gentle and playful! This picture shows his love for the snow and for footballs. Tammy Crawley |
This
is Stephannie, I worked in the kennel, and I am a volunteer at the MCSPCA.
People keep asking me why you don't have any exotics success stories on
your site. Well if you would like another one here is a pic of my Bubby,
he came in as part of a cruelty case back in April, he was a mess when he
came in and I was the first person to see him when he came in. He had all
kinds of infections and was very sick. After taking him to 2 different exotics
vets he is in great shape and as much a part of my family as my kids of
course. He follows us around the house, and hops in our laps as soon as
we sit. I couldn't imagine life without him or any of my other pets ( all
adopted from MCSPCA). We also adopted Sadie Beagle in January
2001. She is the one who inspired me to volunteer at MCSPCA. She absolutely
adores her human children and has to be with them every minute of the day.
I also adopted Guinea Pigs Techno and Mom Aggie in June. All of my babies
are just the greatest and I love boasting about them to everyone who will
listen!Take Care, Stephannie Sides 1/02 UPDATE! It is me again! I am the Mommy of Aggie, Techno and Bubby Rabbit(who recently passed at 8 years old), and Sadie Beagle who is going on her 1 year anniversary with us! We have made January 16 her honorary birthday( the day we adopted her) and we are making her a special cake and everything. She started
this whole thing, after adopting her I came to volunteer at the MCSPCA,
started working there, and fell in love with things that I used to be not
so sure of like, Guinea Pigs , hamsters, gerbils and RATS! Well with the
added knowledge and love for even the smallest of pets, we were able to
start a rescue dedicated to them, the "little furries", we mostly
take in homeless Guinea Pigs and Rabbits and other small furries. And I
think for the most part I have MCSPCA and Sadie to thank for that! Sadie
is now about 3 or 4 years old and loves all the little animals that come
into our rescue, she has to give a kiss to each one that comes in. And I
think Sadie would like to send a kiss to everyone at the shelter!Sincerely, Steph Sides ps. Here is a picture that my mom took on Christmas eve of Sadie and I and a rescue bunny. I think Sadie found someone's pumpkin pie! |
