DOGS FOR ADOPTION

These are just a few of our wonderful dogs - there are more at our shelter. This page is updated weekly and new dogs arrive all the time. Every pet is different and every family is different - the best way to adopt is for you and your family is to visit us, talk with one of our trained Adoption Counselors, and meet our dogs in person.

We use the ASPCA's "Meet Your Match" Program. Each dog is assessed and assigned a "canine-ality" profile (listed with each dog below- Goofball, Couch Potato, Life Of The Party, etc.), and that profile is used to find the best dog for you. Take the MYM 'quiz' and find out which canine-ality profile is the best match for your family.

When you are ready to adopt, please bring your whole family. If you have pets, bring their vet information so that we can check that all your pets are up-to-date with shots. If you rent, please bring your lease, to show that you are allowed to have pets. If you already have a dog, we will oversee a meeting between your current dog(s) and the one you'd like to adopt to make sure that there's a good match. You must be over 21 to adopt.

If you have questions about these dogs, please email Isa. Remember to include the dog's name in the subject of your email.

The shelter is open 7 days a week: from 1:00 - 5:00 PM on Saturday through Wednesday and from 1:00 - 6:00 on Thursday and Friday. All adoption paperwork must be submitted to the front desk one hour before closing.

We cannot accept checks or American Express credit cards, but accept Visa, Mastercharge, Discover, and, of course, cash.

Busy Bee Corky
I'm a handsome, 2-year-old Pointer mix who came from a shelter down south.  I am a very happy boy who loves life.  Won't you consider giving me a home?

Couch Potato Shadow
I'm a gorgeous, 7-year-old American Eskimo dog.  I love to go for walks, and I enjoy being petted. I'm very calm and well-behaved.  I know "sit", "paw", "stay", and "come".

Busy Bee Simone
I'm a gentle Terrier mix who was found as a stray.  I enjoy playing with toys, and enjoy going for walks.  I know "sit", "stay", and "come".  I really like to be loved and petted.  And I like to be photographed, too!

Busy Bee Curly
I'm a one-year-old Boxer mix. Check out my super-curly tail - hence my name.  I am an unassuming dog - I like people but won't bother you too much for attention.  I enjoy going for walks.  I know all my commands - "sit", "down", "paw", "stay", and "come".  I can learn lots more, too -  I'm very smart.

Life of the Party Rocky
I am two years old and loads of fun.  I love people, and think I'm a lap dog. I give lots of kisses. I play a little with toys, but boy, do I like people.  I know "sit", "paw", "stay", and "come".

Goofball Bella
Bella is a Terrier mix who is about 5 years old. She is a calm, loving dog who knows "sit" and "paw". Bella would much rather give kisses and be petted than play with toys, but she does play some! We know that Bella had a less-than-happy past life; we'd love to see her with a wonderful new family soon!  She enjoys going for rides in the car.

Busy Bee Mama Mia
Mama Mia is a one-year-old Terrier mix who was found as a stray out in the cold with her two puppies.  She's just a baby herself, the poor thing!  Mama Mia is a very sweet dog who knows "sit" and loves to play with balls and toys.  She likes people and enjoys getting petted.  Her tail is always wagging happily.

Wallflower Bongo
Bongo is a 5-year-old Hound mix who came from an overcrowded shelter down south.  He is a calm and well-behaved gentleman who likes attention.  Bongo leans up against you and likes to put his head on your lap.  I suspect he didn't have much of a doggie life before coming to NJ - he doesn't seem to know how to play with balls and toys.  He does like to go for walks and loves to romp in the snow.

Wallflower Sparkie
Sparkie is a very handsome Spaniel mix - there might be some border collie or sheltie genes in there, but we're not sure.  He's about 3 years old, and his owner had to go to Iraq for an extended period of time.  Poor Sparkie misses his family and is hoping to find a new one soon.  He is a little shy at first but warms up quickly to strangers.  Sparkie knows "sit".  We also heard that he barks at people in baseball caps!

Wallflower Mindy
Poor little Mindy was found as a stray, and it was clear that she'd recently had puppies.  She is a very sweet girl who is a little shy at first.  You can see in her video, though, that she warms up very quickly.  Mindy loves attention and likes to lean against you to be petted.  She is a smart girl who has mastered "sit", "down", "stay", "come", and "paw".

Wallflower Lazarus
Lazarus is a sweet Terrier mix who was found as a stray.  He had a lot of scars on his face and must have had a difficult life before finding us.  Now he's treated kindly and has food to eat and a nice warm place to stay, but he would really relax in a family situation.  Lazarus may be a little nervous with strangers at first, but you can see from the video that he loves to play and run around with glee.

 Busy Bee Dodger
Hi there!  I'm Dodger. Pleasure to meet you!  I am an older Beagle, and I'm looking for a new home. My owners decided to leave me behind when they moved away, so I ended up at the SPCA. I'm a happy-go-lucky fellow, and I will love you forever if you take me for walks and scratch my back and pet me. Why don't you come over to the SPCA and say hello? I'll show you how smart I am - I know "sit"!

Go Getter Justice
Justice is a perfect embodiment of the song 'Girls just wanna have fun".  She's one year old and loves to play.  Justice can entertain herself for quite a while with toys - playtime is her middle name.  She likes people and is motivated by food, so she'll be a fast learner.  Justice knows "sit", "stay", and "come".

Life of the Party Virgil
Virgil is a one-year-old mix - he is said to have Lab, Shepherd, Border Collie, and Hound genes.  Whatever he is, it's a great combination - Virgil is quite the handsome guy.  Virgil is an active, fun-loving puppy who lives to play ball.  He loves people and his perfect home would have lots of action and another dog (or two or three) to play with.

Pedro is a young Staffordshire Terrier mix who was found as a stray.  He's a very friendly boy who adores people and loves being petted.  He'll lean into you to get the full benefit of your attention. He's a fairly calm boy but does enjoy playing with balls and toys.  Pedro knows "sit", "stay", and "come".   Look at his goofy smile!

Life of the Party Gracie
Gracie is a two-year-old Hound mix who came from a shelter down south. When she was at that shelter, she was so sweet that they made her the surrogate mom for some orphaned puppies. Gracie is fun-loving and lively. She can be very silly and makes you laugh. Gracie loves people and keeps checking in to say hi even when she's playing. Gracie knows "sit" and "down".  She's a wonderful dog!

Wallflower Lucky
Some people say I am very lucky to be alive... I sure am.  Hi, I'm Lucky.  I was found as a stray, and I'm about 2 years old.  I'm very mellow for a terrier mix, and I'm very gentle, too.  I'd love to have a forever home - I didn't have the best life until now, but I don't hold that against anyone.   I like to sit right next to you - actually, right on your feet, and I know three awesome tricks - "sit",  "stay", and "come". I think I can learn more, too!

Goofball Lucy is a remarkable young Terrier mix who was abandoned with another dog. Surviving her first years in difficult conditions, she is now starting to enjoy being a dog and learning to trust people again. Playful and gentle, Lucy will melt your heart as she joyfully discovers her new life with you. A lap dog who loves to cuddle, Lucy knows some commands. Lucy always looks like she thoroughly enjoys herself on outings to one of our volunteer's houses! Good dog, Lucy!  Lucy is in a foster home; please ask about her at the shelter.
