DOGS FOR ADOPTION

These are just a few of our wonderful dogs - there are more at our shelter. This page is updated weekly and new dogs arrive all the time. Every pet is different and every family is different - the best way to adopt is for you and your family is to visit us, talk with one of our trained Adoption Counselors, and meet our dogs in person.

We use the ASPCA's "Meet Your Match" Program. Each dog is assessed and assigned a "canine-ality" profile (listed with each dog below- Goofball, Couch Potato, Life Of The Party, etc.), and that profile is used to find the best dog for you. Take the MYM 'quiz' and find out which canine-ality profile is the best match for your family.

When you are ready to adopt, please bring your whole family. If you have pets, bring their vet information so that we can check that all your pets are up-to-date with shots. If you rent, please bring your lease, to show that you are allowed to have pets. If you already have a dog, we will oversee a meeting between your current dog(s) and the one you'd like to adopt to make sure that there's a good match. You must be over 21 to adopt.

If you have questions about these dogs, please email Isa. Remember to include the dog's name in the subject of your email.

The shelter is open 7 days a week: from 1:00 - 5:00 PM on Saturday through Wednesday and from 1:00 - 6:00 on Thursday and Friday. All adoption paperwork must be submitted to the front desk one hour before closing.

We cannot accept checks or American Express credit cards, but accept Visa, Mastercharge, Discover, and, of course, cash.

Busy Bee Destiny
Destiny is a gorgeous Lab/Terrier mix who is about one year old.  She was abandoned by her owner and left to fend for herself.  Destiny is a kissy lap dog who adores everyone.  She isn't too interested in playing; she just wants attention.  Destiny is smart - she knows "sit", "down", "paw", "stay", and "come".   She leans against you, wanting to get as close as she can.

Go Getter Justice
Justice is a perfect embodiment of the song 'Girls just wanna have fun".  She's one year old and loves to play.  Justice can entertain herself for quite a while with toys - playtime is her middle name.  She likes people and is motivated by food, so she'll be a fast learner.  Justice knows "sit", "stay", and "come".

Life of the Party Virgil
Virgil is a one-year-old mix - he is said to have Lab, Shepherd, Border Collie, and Hound genes.  Whatever he is, it's a great combination - Virgil is quite the handsome guy.  Virgil is an active, fun-loving puppy who lives to play ball.  He loves people and his perfect home would have lots of action and another dog to play with.

Virgil loves to cuddle!

Wallflower Conger
Conger is a handsome two-year-old Foxhound mix who came from an overcrowded shelter in the south.  Conger doesn't really know how to play with toys or balls yet, but he did show some interest - we think he will learn quickly once he's settled into his new home.  He enjoys getting attention.

Life of the Party Maggie
Maggie is a funny-faced Terrier mix with big soulful eyes and drooping jowls.  She's simply adorable.  Maggie enjoys going for walks, and loves to play fetch - maybe there's some retriever in her?  She knows a great "sit".

Life of the Party Gracie
Gracie is a two-year-old Hound mix who came from a shelter down south. When she was at that shelter, she was so sweet that they made her the surrogate mom for some orphaned puppies. Gracie is fun-loving and lively. She can be very silly and makes you laugh. Gracie loves people and keeps checking in to say hi even when she's playing. Gracie knows "sit" and "down".  She's a wonderful dog!

Wallflower Lazarus
Lazarus is a sweet Terrier mix who was found as a stray.  He had a lot of scars on his face and must have had a difficult life before finding us.  Now he's treated kindly and has food to eat and a nice warm place to stay, but he would really relax in a family situation.  Lazarus may be a little nervous with strangers at first, but you can see from the video that he loves to play and run around with glee.

Goofball Guy
Guy is a very well-behaved Staffordshire Terrier mix who was found as a stray with another dog.  We think he's about four years old.  Guy loves to give kisses to all he meets.  He enjoys rides in the car and long walks.  He plays some with toys, especially loud squeaky ones.  Guy knows "sit", "stay", and "come".

Wallflower Lucky
Some people say I am very lucky to be alive... I sure am.  Hi, I'm Lucky.  I was found as a stray, and I'm about 2 years old.  I'm very mellow for a terrier mix, and I'm very gentle, too.  I'd love to have a forever home - I didn't have the best life until now, but I don't hold that against anyone.   I like to sit right next to you - actually, right on your feet, and I know three awesome tricks - "sit",  "stay", and "come". I think I can learn more, too!

Olive is a sweet two-year-old Terrier mix who was found as a stray. She's a calm dog who is well-behaved. Olive plays a little with balls and toys. She knows "sit", "stay", and "come".  Olive really enjoys going on outings and is very good in the car.  She hasn't learned how to parallel park yet - otherwise she'd be off on her own!

Goofball Bella
Bella is a Terrier mix who is about 5 years old. She is a calm, loving dog who knows "sit" and "paw". Bella would much rather give kisses and be petted than play with toys, but she does play some! We know that Bella had a less-than-happy past life; we'd love to see her with a wonderful new family soon!  She enjoys going for rides in the car.

Constant Companion Cass is a darling little girl who was rescued from the streets of Puerto Rico.  She had been hit by a car, and hurt her leg and lost an eye in the ordeal.  However, this sweetheart doesn't let anything stop her.  She loves people and loves getting attention.  Cass looks like an Italian Greyhound mix, and is about four years old.

Life of the Party Marty
Hey, my name's Marty and I'm a three-year-old Chocolate Lab mix.  I was found as a stray.  Isn't my half tail just so adorable? Want to watch me wag it?  Maybe you should come to the boardwalk sometimes; I love to take long walks. I love to play and give kisses, and I can't wait to have a family.  I know how to "sit" and I can't wait to show you!

Goofball Lucy is a remarkable young Terrier mix who was abandoned with another dog. Surviving her first years in difficult conditions, she is now starting to enjoy being a dog and learning to trust people again. Playful and gentle, Lucy will melt your heart as she joyfully discovers her new life with you. A lap dog who loves to cuddle, Lucy knows some commands. Lucy always looks like she thoroughly enjoys herself on outings to one of our volunteer's houses! Good dog, Lucy!

Go Getter Oliver is a two-year-old Terrier who was abandoned at a doggie day care facility with his doggy "sister". Oliver is friendly to all. He is playful and gentle and has a big tail wag. We're told that Oliver can climb fences and ladders! He can catch balls and treats in the air. Oliver knows "sit", "stay", and "come".  He is one of the Long Branch boardwalk regulars; he enjoys long walks/jogs.

Wallflower Harpo is a sweet 2-year-old Terrier mix who was confiscated from a less-than-ideal home.  Harpo doesn't know (yet) how to play with toys or balls, but he loves to be petted and he gives lots of kisses.  He's a good boy who deserves a second chance at a good doggie life. Harpo knows "sit".  He loves to play in the snow!  Harpo is a little reserved but that makes him all the more special - he just needs some loving.
