Becky and MaxOctober 13, 2007 - Kick Up Your Paws - A benefit held by Becky and Max Weinberg (shown to the right) at their estate was a big success! Five hundred people were there, and all had a great time.

Becky and Max had the party to raise funds for our much-needed renovation. Thank you Becky and Max!

Richard, Ursula and LauraHonored at the event were Laura and Richard Saker. Laura and Richard have been long-time supporters of the MCSPCA, and Laura serves on our Board of Trustees. Their personal committment to the welfare of animals and people is an inspiration. Shown to the left is George, Ursula and CaroleRichard, our Executive Director Ursula Goetz, and Laura.

Honorary Chairs Carole and George Feldman are very supportive of our renovation, making an extraordinary financial pledge to the building fund. Thank you George and Carole! Shown to the right are George, Ursula and Carole.

The evening was dedicated in loving memory of Terry Magovern, a Man for All Seasons and a special friend of all animals, large and small.
There was an amazing silent auction, live auction and 50/50 raffle (our hardworking volunteer raffle crew shown to the left).

Triumph helps the AuctioneerThe live auction was helped along by Triumph The Comic Insult Dog, who also entertained with a hilarious routine. The live auction included Max's drum set, a guitar signed by Bon Jovi, a dinner package from Mumford's Culinary Center, and more!

The Mercedes car raffle winner was announced- Joan Huegel of Ocean NJ, a long time MCSPCA volunteer, was the lucky winner. Joan is a foster mom who takes in newborn kittens from the shelter and bottle feeds them until they are old enough to be adopted.

Max plays!Tim McCloone and the Shirleys played a wonderful opening set, and the Max Weinberg 7 rocked and rolled throughout most of the evening (shown to the left is Max playing the drums that he donated for auction, fetching $20,000 for the shelter!).
Michael Israel
Artist Michael Israel created five amazing works of art while we watched, painting to music on whirling and spinning canvases, quite a show! Shown to the right you can see Israel creating his version of Springsteen's "Born to Run" album cover. Each painting was auctioned off to support the renovation.
Bruce Springsteen playsAt the height of the evening, Bruce Springsteen showed up! After joking "When Max said he was having a party in his yard, I was expecting a barbecue kind of thing," Springsteen sang six songs, backed by jazz singer Janelle, and Ally and Jay Weinberg.

In the middle of his set, Springsteen picked the winning ticket for the 50/50 raffle (shown to the right with Jean Hager, who was in charge of the 50/50 as well as many other things!). The raffle raised over $10,000 for the renovation.

Then, Springsteen generously donated the guitar he was playing that night to be auctioned off, signed by him on the spot. Spirited bidding for the guitar occured- two different people really wanted that guitar. Finally the lucky winner walked away with his bit of history for $35,000, all of which went to the renovation. Shown to the right is Springsteen signing the guitar for the lucky winner, Ray Cantena. Thank you Bruce!
