BETS FOR PETS CASINO NIGHT

We held our Fourth Annual Casino Night Fundraiser at the Robert Meyner Reception Center at the PNC Bank Arts Center on Saturday, May 2, 2009. The theme was "Phantom of the Opera" and the Center was decorated with red roses and candelabras, just beautiful. The event produced a “Full House” of attendees and helped raise over $60,000 towards our renovation.

Event Chairs Jerome Rosenthal and Cionna Buckley (above left) joined Honorees Charlie and Trudy Parton (above center) and Honorary Chairs Emeritus Richard and Laura Saker (above right) for a delightful evening of dining, dancing, and gaming. Jerry is a dedicated board member and is Chair of our steering committee for our Homeward Bound Capital Campaign. He helped escort the first pets into our new Adoption Center. Richard and Laura (also a board member) have been generous supporters and for the fourth year in a row their support has helped make Casino Night a success. Richard and Laura recently toured the new Adoption Center and ended up adopting a special needs kitty! Finally, Trudy and Charlie have been dedicated and generous supporters of the MCSPCA for some time. They are so dedicated they came and helped clean all the glass in our new gazebos before we moved the animals into their new digs. Thank you everyone!



Live music was courtesy of Tim McLoone & The Shirleys and they kept the place hopping. Tim (shown to the right) also acted as emcee and auctioneer, and did a fantastic job. With his help, the live auction, which included front and center tickets to the Bruce Springsteen show in NJ, raised $13,000! Wow! Thank you Tim McLoone!

Additional entertainment was provided by Broadway talent, Steve Buntrock (left), whose impressive resume includes The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, and Beauty & the Beast, and actress and singer, Jessica Lopez (right). The pair sang selections from Phantom of the Opera (the night's theme) and wowed the crowd with their amazing voices.

NBC Nightly News Anchor, Brian Williams, formally of Middletown, served as Honorary Chairperson and delivered a heartfelt introduction to the evening. Watch his intro here

Matthew Guglielmi of Oceanport was the winner of the 50/50 Grand Prize of $31,155. Shown to the right is Matthew with Ursula and a very special adoptee, Daisy, who exemplifies why the MCSPCA is so needed. Daisy was brought in by her person who was about to leave for his third tour to Iraq. He was convinced that he would not come back this time, so tearfully brought Daisy in to find a new home. We were able to find Daisy a loving home with a family who has promised to write to Daisy's person in Iraq, hopefully making his stay in Iraq a bit more bearable. Stories like this make us all remember why everyone at the MCSPCA do the work they do.
